Borla vs Nismo exhaust..

That's just the point - the manufacturer's claim is fake

Ah, Thank You......so, the moral of the story is- go with what sounds to your liking and dont worry about minimal HP gains?

Look at me, I'm still running stock exhaust... I got stuck because I could not find an exhaust with all 3 criteria (design, price, and sound) that I liked. At least not yet.
If you want a stock sounding exhaust just stick with your stock exhaust. If you want a mean sounding exhaust go borla td with test pipes. I wouldn't get either without test pipes. test pipes enhance the sound. I was shocked at how little the borla difference was without test pipes, hence I got test pipes two days later and still loving it.....20k later.

test pipes = bad for the world
no thanks on that
I would disagree and say that the Borla without test pipes sounds very different from the stock exhaust. My wife moved my car the other day and not only did it sound significantly different than the in-car experience, it didn't sound too much like stock.
If you want to keep the stock sound, the only choice is Nismo. Everything else tweaks the sound enough to make a difference. Although I really love the Borla I was a bit disappointed that it took awaythe stock sound.

The best my car ever sounded was when I had stock exhaust, MREV2 and 5/16 spacer, and Stillen CAI through a cf intake tube. That sounded awesome! Exotic even.
Now I have the NISMO, and it has lost that exotic "rip" note. I wish it was a little quieter. I'm going to be looking for ways to silence it a little bit; I don't care if it costs me every ounce of hp gain it gave me. I liked being "stealthier" much better, but I really had to have the NISMO embossed exhaust (I think it is only proper).
Anyone know how to make it quieter?

I am an older dude to some [40].
I went from stock ['06], then put first mod as a Borla exhaust. I totally noticed this transition, being a huge fan of Roadster/top-down vehicle sounds. It was barely noticeable at idle unless in an enclosed space, but it would open up and growl wicked when you stomp on it. 2 months later, I put an Injen CAI on. I am very very happy wth the sound from the Roadster now, because it growls when you mean it to, and shuts up when you don't want to wake the neighbors. This is an especially key factor when driving to a civilized/country dinner with my wife...she would not appreciate the raspy/rough/tin and otherwise diminishing or indicators of low quality or avert aggressiveness...but loves the gentle thrust and related sound of sophisticated throttle...

Some of you guys seem to want to hate on Borla citing quality, but coming from the Domestic market they are pretty highly regarded. Also, all of their products carry a million mile warranty. Does your Nismo have that?
I had a horrible experience with my borla.
The clamp system is outdated, and any removal of the pipes after being sealed makes it impossible to retain the same seal when re-attached, if you can get them apart.
The H-pipe is hilarious. You're only option is to weld it, and even when I did, my new test pipes put seperating pressure on the pipes and eventually cracked the seal. (not isolated problem)
The muffler hangars vibrate from contact with the rods and had to be shaved. (not isolated problem)
It's overall ugly, both underneath and from the back. Tips are the nicest thing.
Sound is not different enough from stock to be worth the $$ or effort, and any power gains weren't noticed.
Mind you I did all the work myself so I'm not going off what any shop said or what I "thought" was the problem. I was glad to get rid of it.
