Question z Exhaust Disign

I have a question regarding the Z¡¯s exhaust system. First of all let me tell you that I¡¯m a aerospace engineer. I noticed that the Z has a Catback exhaust system and from looking at the pictures of the exhaust pipes, it seems to me that the pipes make a loop in at the rear of the car. My question is wouldn¡¯t that restrict the flow of air leaving the engine, and wouldn¡¯t that cause a lost of HP. I would think that a straight pipe without and bends or turns would be the most efficient way to engineer an exhaust. Also I have heard that cars need ¡°some¡± restriction of air for backpressure to efficiently run the engine. The second question is why is this necessary?

Thanks, just very curious

HAHA I dont think you need to be an aerospace engineer to figure that one out....But there are a few different types of exhausts out for the Z. The Injen has a straight through design I believe. And the Stillen is a true dual exhaust since it has two of everything basically mufflers, etc. Most are like what you describe single pipe going into the muffler with a lot of bends. I'm not an expert on the backpressure issue so you may want to wait around for some better help.
