Different Intake
Take a look at the Aussie spec car's intake, what is the extra closed ended tube branching out of the intake main tube/pipe, what's it purpose. There are no sensors attached to it, I can't see it fuction, your US spec cars don't have it. I was hoping to fit the Injen CAI will it present a problem help?
Could be there for several reasons. My mustang GT has this and I played with it one day and it messed with the idle. If you notice it bypasses the throttle body all together. It also could be there to eliminate some of the whistle the car makes at certain throttle positions when the air is moving through the TB. But my guess is idle / emissions.
No he said it is closed ended so it is not emissions or idle. It is probably another air silencer. Do Aussies have more stringent laws than the US? It may help match a lower decibel rating than the US cars have to meet. If it is closed ended, just put the CAI on and enjoy.
Good Call!
Ok, if it is close ended it probably cuts down on turbulent air flow which is inherently noisy. We did these sort of things in my biomedical labs to smooth flow through tubes, catheters, and pump equipment. Humm, we also used it to catch moisture in the lines too. Never really thought about it on a car before!

errr...
I have an Aussie Z and it doesn't have that setup!
Mine is as the US setup but with the battery in the top right as above. Hence the 2 earth kit wires on the top right of the throttle body.

definetely a funky air resonator. this is interesting to me because i don't like the way my intake sounds at high rpm. i would love to see if it sounds different with that "thing" attached.
i have honestly seen some of these on US domestic cars with large engines that are well over a foot long. weird to say the least, and they are always curved.
