Default Replace Resonator w/ Straight Pipe

I have a 2004 G35 6MT, I've done intake and spacer mods now I want to start on the exhaust. I plan on getting hi-flo cats but not for another couple of months.

I want to replace the resonator with a straight pipe to make the exhaust louder. Are there any issues with this, back pressure, or whatever? I bought a 18" x 2.5" diameter pipe, is this the correct diameter as the midpipe? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

The only potential problem that I can see is bad welds and leaks.

Yes, i do believe that the mid pipe is 2.5"

fart pipe loud as in a ricey honda?

i read on g35driver about the magnaflow p/n 10435 but it's 22" long and 4" diameter. it seems like it's too long and i think it's the same diameter as stock so i don't see it making much of a difference

The mid-pipe on our cars is acting like an exhaust resonator. if you remove this and put a straight pipe on there it is going to make one hell of a difference. I'm not saying its going to sound like a ricer, but it's going to be loud like one.

just came back from the shop... the guy said he's done it to his friend's G and there was no popping or cracking, but he was on the way out. i'm gonna bring it back tomorrow or saturday and get it done. if i don't like it i'll try a smaller resonator instead of the straight through pipe... i'll let you all know how it comes out

Get it done on Friday!

I'm wanting to bring mine in on Sat. to have it removed as well but if yours sounds like poo, then it will save me 40 bucks

I'm gonna ask the guy about maybe using an 18" resonator in place or a shorter one if they have one and see how it goes.

There seems to be a lot of threads about doing this on the g35 forum. Most seem to agree that straight pipes will rasp unless you use a mini glass pack or similar.

Maybe I will wait

took it in yesterday. it sounds good so far. a little rasp when cold and under 2k rpms, after that it sounds louder but basically the same stock note. i need to have a friend drive it down the block so i can see how it sounds from outside. overall, i like it so far.

more feedback. i like the sound except at WOT when it's a little ricey. i'll deal with it for a few weeks but i'm going to put in the smallest resonator i can get to eliminate it.
