The Z's intake system now basically is a short ram, so you'd be wasting your money on a short ram system. The short ram sucks air from under the hood still, just further from the engine itself, where as the full CAI goes down into the bumper and sucks air from the grill. This results in better air flow, and colder air. Also, I personally have never done performance modifications, I've done headlight conversions on M3's, and some interior work, so my friend and I are taking this task together, he's going to guide me through it. As long as you are careful, and can follow diagrams well, you should be able to install it. Generally it took about an hour and a half, in your case, go slow, maybe spend 2 hours. If you decide you want to do it professionally, most performance shops will charge about $80/hour, for a total of anywhere from $100-$150. If you have the cash, it's best to do it through a shop.

Also, just so you know, the short ram is generally about $130+shipping. The CAI is from $220 (polished) to about $250 (black), but the CAI can be also used as a short ram if you perfer (don't know who would want short ram over CAI unless budget though)... so suppose you decide you want a short ram, just hook up the filter to the polished piece, and sell the hose for about $90-100. So in short, the CAI can also be converted to a short ram. (The black hose prolly would have the best chance of selling IMO)
