Ideas on Exhausts
But at the same time, lots of those cars (the race cars) tune their headers depending on the track and whether they need more peak HP or smoother torque. They may go with longer thinner tubes or shorter fatter ones.
I think the point was that you don't just want to start cutting holes in the exhaust without understanding how it will affect things. There may be an optimal place to but the diverter, and it may not be right before the cats.

Soon to be released... Y-pipe, connector pipe and muffler. Stock base line Dyno Jet #'s. 229 hp and 223 lbs of torque. With my new system...248hp and 243 lbs of torque... @ 3750rpm the torque gain was more than 22. All tests performed in 5th gear. stay tuned!!! More tests on the way.

Backpressure is a key element to tuning. This is the reason the manuf. go through many different designs, and hours dyno-tuning, rather than slapping a huge 3.5" pipe straight to the back.
Mine is 2.5 from the cats back, stock has some areas that reduce to 2 but I am running N20.
Mine seems pretty good and sounds awesome. I am not worried about tC loss with a 100 shot and it was well worth it in the high end, Ie. faster traps.
As I said in another post, one should define their goal before beginning ANY mods.
