Yes, there was a problem getting the filter onto the end of the lower intake pipe, so I just went ahead and left the filter off and put a sock on the end of the pipe... j/k

Thanks for asking the question as this is exactly how I envisioned this thread (ie confused by a picture or a stage? Post it and ask the question). We attached the lower intake pipe to the MAF and mounted it. This is where a second person comes in handy so that the lower intake pipe can be held from above while the filter is installed from the bottom (don't forget to put the 48" clamp losely around the filter before installing it on the pipe). This is also where the nut driver comes in handy as you can't really see so well down there. By the way, my car has been lowered (Eibach's Pro Kit) so I (well, OK, my friend) had even less room than a "normal" car.

Also, I do want to mention that this is not really a "Step by Step" installation guide. This is only meant as a supplement to the crappy pictures (overphotocopied black and white pics that lack very much detail) in the instruction guide provided by AEM.

To clarify my answer a little better, steps 2K and 2L (the "good pictures") allows you to access the area where the filter goes, from the front of the car. You just pull the plastic panel down after removing the bolts and the plastic fastners. The plastic panel is still bolted toward the "back" of the engine compartment.

As far as a V2 version coming out, there is nothing listed on AEM's website as of today (May 3rd).
It is on their website today - 5/5/03. Great post BTW - very useful. Thanks.

Thanks alot for the guide. I bought a used AEM and it came without instructions. This guide walked me right through it. Excellent work.
BTW, the CAI sound awesome after 4,000 rpms. Well worth the money.

I spoke to an engineer/tech support person at AEM who said there was not room on the 350Z for the V2, so I ordered what they had. Thanks for the great post....I should have looked at it before I started my installation.

It's just take the old one out and put the new one back where it was, if you need any more help than that, ask your turbo installer.
