Default One major difference between 03-06 OEM exhausts vs. 07

Just learned yesterday that the OEM 07 exhaust, especially the y pipe, will not fit 03-06 Z but 03-06 OEM exhausts will fit the 07s. Reason behind this is the y pipes for the 07s splits much wider and the underbody of the car is designed with a wider slot to hold the pipings. That along with the heatshield will give 03-06 owners clearance problems on the sides. This makes sense since the exhaust is designed to fit the new HR motor. The 07 Y pipes also looks wider, better flowing, and mandrel bent vs. the 03-06s. However, if you have a 03-06 Greddy EVO TT it will fit an 07. I'm not sure about such systems as the HKS unless a manufactor has more than 1 part number for the exhaust then it should fit the 07s. The back end of the actual canister looks to be the same. All in all it appears that even the new HR exhaust is superior to the previous models. You learn something new everyday.

I might be wrong, but I thought the flanges were also different.

The flanges looks to be different (the mount points are completely different) on the Y pipes but similar as you move towards to rear of the car. I'm not sure how the Greddy Evo TT hooks up at that section but an 06 owner was successful in tranporting his old Greddy exhaust to his 07.

Yeah I tried to swap my HKS out with a 07 exhaust yesterday and it did not work at all. I ended up installing a 06 into my 03. I then asked the shop why they had an 07 exhaust lying around and they said they had a customer who had a 06 with a Evo TT who wanted to swap it to his new 07. We they swapped it and he left the 07 there.

Sorry but I disagree. I just installed a 2007 OEM exhaust on my 2003 350Z. Everything lined up perfectly and I have no fitment issues or rubbing whatsoever. I did this myself in my garage with no help in less than 2 hours.

I almost was not going to do the swap after reading this thread, but am very glad I did because it works perfectly.

I guess not all exhausts are created equal.

This is very odd because I saw the exhaust clearance with my own eyes. We put an 06 and 07 side by side and there was a distinct difference between the 2 especially at the y pipe. The swap was done on a lift so there was no question regarding the fitment. I'm not a noob when it comes to working on a car and neither was the shop I went to. I wouldn't have posted this is I wasn't 100% sure. I guess we need a 3rd opinion here.

I would have to agree with JDMFairladyZ33.

corsair- are you sure that the 07 exhaust would fit into your 03 350z?

Are you 100% it was an 07? Hmm does it feel like it opened up a little power?

The exhaust came off of a car with a build date of 03/07. Maybe it somehow had an older exhaust system on it. All I know is it works and i'm happy. As far as it opening up a little power i'd have to say no because I had the Topspeed Pro 1 on there before.

05 NISMO - I'm going to slap you if you try starting trouble here.

I was able to swap out my 05 y pipe for the hr y pipe (07) no problem. Still waiting for my arc exhaust. The hr y pipe is just kinda flipped from previous years but it fit my g. There r some clamps that don't attach tho.

I gave my old 03 exhaust away a couple of days ago that was packed away in my garage. After looking at it I am positive that the 03 OEM Y pipe that I had was definitely narrower than the 07s. Now I'm starting to wonder are there different 03 exhaust designs since some of you are claiming that it could be done.
