Default Need input Borla TD and TP's problem

I have the Borla TD kit and last night I put on test pipes. Well this morning I got to driving it and 2 problems: 1, it now has a rattle like the pipes are hitting something, 2, It starting leaking really bad after about a 30 minute drive. I am just too busy to jack it up and really get under it and work on it so I dropped it off at the exhaust shop. I told them to weld up some hangers and fix whatever leaks they hear. How bad is the rasp with these supposed to be? I hope thats not what I am hearing, because it really horrible sounding. My Z sounded like rice on the way to the shop.

i have heard terrible stories about Borla exhaust and TP's. Rasp may be some of what you hear, but i know when i installed my HFC's my exhaust shifted all the way down the car, and i had to loosen clamps, reposition the pipe and retighten the clamps. Took a couple hours to eliminate everything. Ive heard from other people with TP/Borla combo about the resinator section of the exhaust flexing under hard acceleration due to the TP's poorly secured mounting. I have not expereinced this personally, but ive heard from a few people that the TP/Borla combo does not sound as good as no TP's or HFC's. I guess all you can do is wait and see how it sounds once you get it back from the shop, but unfortuantly the techs there dont know the sound of the car, and probably wont be able to identify all the rattle nor fix it. I had to get under there and do it myself, which you will probably end up doing too. Bad move on have a 2 bit exhaust shop weld anything on that exhaust, i hope they dont hack it up too bad, because a quality welding job of the Borla exhaust is rather expensive. Good luck with things.

I got it back this morning and it sound good. No leaks and the rattle is gone and best of all only 80$ to fix. I'm not impressed with the sound but I guess thats what I get it's just a V6. I like it down low but passed 3500 its a little ricey. Got lucky with the shop cause the guy knew what he was doin and pretty much welded the whole thing and took out all the clamps.

Good to hear. No problems with my Borla TD + TP. Get someone to take a drive-by video so you can hear what others are hearing. Outside the car it is a LOT less raspy and sounds a lot more aggressive than what it sounds like in the cabin.

Don't speak too soon, sometimes it pops up after a few days . Non-foulers work on my 03 too.

the exhaust sounds much throatier and more aggressive outside the car. Ricer is far from the description of Borla exhaust. Give it time, if the rasp is barable, you'll learn to love it.

i developed a bad noise shortly after puttng on my turboXS TP, loud rattle around 2500 rpms, turns out the weld around rear collector on my driver side TP cracked and was causing it. I have heard the TP ca flex under hard acceleration and it can even rip itself from the hanger, have heard some say to unbolt the hanger to prevent this. TurboXS has sent me a new set free of charge and awaiting installation at Forged.

i noticed it shortly after install, maybe a few days. Just thought maybe it was breaking in but after a while it has started getting worse so i looked under the car and nothing is loose on the exhaust and then noticed the crack in the weld on that TP. I am hoping the new ones will fix the problem because it sounds horrible when going through a parking lot or decelerating.
+1 to Forged and TurboXS for the customer service though.

I have the borla TD and stillen tp's and I picked both of them up used.

There have been some issues that needed attention since making the change to this setup:

1 - Threw a code (which was expected on my 05) and the non-foulers fixed it. Haven't had thrown it since and this is 3K mi later.

2 - The stillen TP's don't have an additional bracket so I had one welded on so that they are more secure and less stress will be put on the headers.

3 - I had a really annoying issue on the driver's side where the borla met the Test pipe. Basically, they meet at a higher location than stock (in my case), so some of the borla piping was touching the bottom of the car. This caused metal on metal vibration which was not harmful to the car or exhaust, but was audible and consequently very annoying. I wrapped the problem area of piping in exhaust heat wrap and the rattle is now gone.

My overall impressions of the setup are pretty good. I like the sound and I got both components for great prices since they were used. It may take a little bit of tweaking, but the end result and money spent have made this combination worth it for me.

Yeah I got it welded up so it is much better now. And they moved it around so it doesnt rub anymore. I am impressed with the setup it's a little loud but I expected it to be.

Okay, after messing with my exhaust more than enough times in the past month, I have a little insight for you and everyone else experiencing rattles. I started with Stillen True Dual. It bolted right up and had no rattles whatsoever. I ran like this for a year or so. Then the itch came, I bought both high flow cats and headers. We had a few fitment issues with the headers i bought so i bolted up the cats to the stock headers. I ran for two weeks this way and found my exhaust to have a nasty rattle on the rear cross member. Many people experience similar issues with the stillen so I wasn't all that concerned. I was going to be bringing my car to crawford in a week to install their headers on my car, but I was a bit concerned after the rattling and my last set of headers having fitment problems. So what I did was went and bought some flex sections, brought it to a guy that i had never heard of, and what turned out was not only a rattle free exhaust, but an improved version of my stillen that would surely adjust to fit any non-fitting headers. A valuable lesson I learned about exhaust parts was that no two parts will be exactly the same, nothing will line up EXACTLY like stock, and while you might spend top dollar on exhaust parts to assure you get the highest quality, something is always bound to cost more money to fit correctly. Little did I know, I would end up learning this lesson TWICE. I got my crawfords installed and took the weekend off to visit the dragon. On the way to North Carolina, sure enough, the dreaded exhaust rattle came back. Oh boy! This time it was twice as loud and occurred twice as often. Well I just ignored it and this morning I brought it back to the guy who did my flex sections and fixed my first rattle. Sure enough, he verified that the crawfords dropped the exhaust down again. He had already raised it once, and now it needed to be raised again. Half an hour of labor cost later (like 40 dollars hehe) I had a rattle free exhaust again! If I took anything from the experience it is as follows. If you are going to do your exhaust modifications, do them all at once. If you run into problems, rather than sending parts back and forth in a never ending cycle of returns and exchanges, just get the parts modified to fit properly. Nothing is perfect, but once everything is bolted up to the car, they can be made as perfect as you need them to be to assure no rattles and proper fitment, at least thats my two cents on it!

+1 for flex sections, never hurts to have that extra "give".

I had borla before my HKS, and when it was time for test-pipes, I had already had so many problems with the borla, they only magnified. They seemed to pull the H-pipe apart more, and the leak was unbearable. Finally ditched the borla, and haven't looked back as far as problems or performance. Sound on the other hand....
