Default Driving W/ No Air Filter!!!!!

So my air filter adapter broke. I bought a cone filter and it came with all the necessary hardware to connect to the Air flow sensor. So On Tuesday I get home and check the fluids and the filter is completely off just sitting there. I had to order a brand new filter with the adapter that connects to the sensor.

So......I've been driving the car from home to work, 24 miles round trip, and wondering what is the danger I am putting the car in by driving it like this? I will hopefully have the new filter and adaptor by tomorrow or latest Friday.

You may have ingested bugs into the motor. With some gasoline, oxygen and a spark, the bugs would be reduced to ashes. They would not know what hit them. Virtually painless.

Well, it all depends on the quality of your air.

You could ingest a few of David's bugs into your MAF sensor... That wouldn't be good...

Its not the end of the world, Im mainly concerned about the MAF doing a burn out. The system will take care of the slight overlean possibility. Replace as soon as you can and buy a can of CRC MAF Cleaner

I would not advise doing it for long
I have done it at the drag strip before, with no issues....
Not a great idea right now.
Lots of bugs out there...

when it comes to air filters, you could render them useless anywhere from 50k miles to 500 miles. If there is a fire in a nearby town, the ash will get ingested into your engine. If you live in a dusty area, you will ingest dust. Etc.

Despite davidv's joke bugs really do get stuck in the filter. So if you're driving through a rural area you'd be much better off with a filter.

24 miles with no filter probably won't hurt anything. But you should get it changed asap

the only time you should chose to run without a filter really is at a track. I used to pop them out all the time at the tracks.

Yea really baby it when driving, obviously the harder down you push the pedal the more the intake is going to be sucking in air. The 07's sound amazing without air filters in them. Think my next time at the strip im gonna take them out. Good thing they take less than a minute to do both lol.

FWIW, taking the air filters out of an '07 Z resulted on ZERO change on a dyno.

A lot of race cars don't run filters.

A lot of race cars have their engines rebuilt frequently.
