Default Injen Exhaust

What's up all,

Just got my new Silverstone Track model and I have an exhaust question. Has anyone bought the Injen exhaust yet? They claim a 17 whp gain but I'm not sure I trust Injen. The reason why I asking is because it's $1200 cheaper than most of the titanium exhausts and with that savings I could throw in coil overs.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Danny

Ingen exhaust is not released yet- probably 1-2 weeks. But be prepared to wait as I have heard most of the exhuats being produced in the initial production run are already preordered.

Not that I have experience with Injen, but part of the reason it's much cheaper is that it's not made of titanium. Some of the companies that make ti exhausts also make stainless steel exhausts, which are hundreds of dollars less. The price for Injen's is sort of low I guess, but it sounds right. For example, a supersprint exhaust for my M Roadster consisted of two completely indepence cat-back pipes, mufflers, etc., and both had dual 90mm tips per side. The exhaust retailed for $635 a side, and it is a a very high quality stainless exhaust. So even if you go with top of the line companies for German cars, as long as they're ss, they'll be much less expensive than a ti exhaust.

If you want a cheap exhaust, go with a Borla. The Injen exhaust looks too hokey.

Yea I'm aware of the fact that it's stainless steel instead of titanium and titanium also affords you the luxury of weight savings, but none of the Ti exhausts claim to make that much wheel hp, which makes me wary of Injen's claims. And on top of that, the Injen exhaust does have an unorthodox design compared to the stock exhaust and the other aftermarket offerings.

If you want a cheap exhaust, go with a Borla. The Injen exhaust looks too hokey.
I'm not interested in cheap as much as I am interested in a solid sound and decent performance gain. And on top of that I had a bad experience with Borla back when I was an idiot and had an american car. I think what I may do is get the Greddy Stainless when it comes out. I like the way that one looks and Greddy is a name I trust a little more than Injen.

What kind of bad experience did you have in the past with borla? I installed 7 different brands of exhausts on audi's and borla was the best fitting of them all.

You should consider the GHL SS exhaust:

I had a 1999 Mustang V6 and ordered a borla exhaust from JCW and ran into some fitting problems. The exhaust was also sent to me with a couple small dings. I do not believe that was Borla's fault and I'm sure they make great products, but the experience was not great and neither JCW or Borla was quick to help.

I can also say I didn't really like that sound from the Borla, but that is irrelavent in this particular case because these are 2 completely different engines and I did not like the stock sound of the Mustang anyway.

You should consider the GHL SS exhaust
Thanks for the tip. It looks pretty nice. How was your sales experience with them? I've never heard of them before now.

You didn't like the sound of the Borla on your Mustang (V6 sux)? Borla has a very deep sound on every car. Who doesn't like a deep sounding exhaust?

Well at the time I didn't like the way it sounded, I didn't like their customer service, I didn't like the way it fit.

But thanks for your constructive comments.

Your Welcome. My brother had one on his S10 and it was very cool. He had no trouble at all. I didn't mean to antagonize you. I just find that hard to believe. Injen is a good company, I like their exhaust and intakes.

I personally don't have the GHL. Everyone that has gotten the GHL on this forum loves it though. I'm waiting to see how the Borla dual turns out and to see what NISMO decides to sell in the USA. I think my decision will be between those (GHL, BORLA, NISMO).

Jeff,

How come you decided to shy away from the titanium offerings? I'm wavering back and forth. Sometimes I think I want the best for my car as far as both gains and weight, and other times I want to shoot myself in the face for even thinking about spending upwards of 2K on an exhaust.

It'll be a gametime decision for me I guess. I'm not rushing anything though, I just got the damn car.

My main reason is that I'd prefer to buy from a company with a large presence in America. I'm hesitant to pay huge import taxes and wait forever to get my exhaust. If I get a damaged product, it would be a pain to return.

If an american company (or a company with a U.S. office) starts selling titanium then I'll consider it.

If I could find a titanium equipped exhaust shop, I might consider having a "clone" of another good exhaust made. However, I think that Ti can't be welded in the presense of oxygen or something crazy like that.

I wonder if Borla will ever come out with a Ti version of their dual exhaust. That would be at the top of my list. Anyone know about that possibility?

Even if it doesn't happen, the current dual is my top choice for performance (reported) and price.
