Well JWT should be here tomorrow.I'll deffinately keep the stock airbox around, maybe do some modifications of my own to bring cooler air to it.

 

You will be pleased with the pop charger. Its a simple design with proven performance.

 

I drive a 2004 MT DB 350Z which is getting its TN turbo reinstalled and a '94 Sentra as a daily driver.

I dumped my heat-soaked poop charger in favor of an '06 airbox & Amsoil dropin. Much more consistent hp now. :-)

A short ram or CAI would be more appropriate for an FI'd Z... Not NA.

I just installed Top Fuel Zero1000 intake chamber on my car tonight.
I used to have polished z-tube with K&N drop in.
Throttle respond is much faster than the set up i used to have.
The chamber design is supposed to increase air velocity.
Sound wise doesn't make much difference since i already got one of the loudest exhaust around.

... So, what's the verdict here? What is the most effective way of going about it doing your intake? We're talking on basis of performance, not cost. I want my car to perform, I'm not cheap. I absolutely love the sound of an aftermarket intake, but everyone seems to be saying that the stock air box is better. I have a friend who has a JWT Short ram intake, and he says he notices a slight advantage in performance. After listening to it, I LOVE the way it sounds. Is anyone going to tell me that it's going to lessen the power of my car?

 

fujita lost HP because of heat soak. Fujita intakes suck. Stillen is the way to go.

 

Unless your friend has done comparison dyno's or track times to prove it, how the heck can he feel a power difference, at best of 3-5rwhp?

 

That's exactly what he said - he notices about a 5 horsepower difference. Hey, that's better than nothing, right? If I can get that, I'll go with the intake.

 

Ive noticed some low-end tq loss with the popcharger since Ive had it for the past year. Im willing to sacrifice the less sound on WOT for my torque back.

 

Your friend is probably referencing the noise increase at 4500+rpm instead of a power increase. Would be just about undetectable by the human *** (unless your buddy has spent some time behind bars) at that level.

 

You're not gonna get noticable gains with any intake alone. Also, its quite opposite than with most other cars - you have worry about LOSING power when you choose an aftermarket intake because the stock box is so efficient.

 

06 Airbox with drop in.

 

The first thing I noticed when I poped the Z's hood for the first time is how well the intake was designed. The only upgrade I would do would be the 06 OEM intake.

 

the k&n drop in you speak of, is that the same thing as the popcharger or different?

 

Its K&N and its a drop-in. Replaces the stock filter.

Yes it is , its basically a short ram.

More fact about short rams intakes, it only takes 5mph to clear the stagnant air from the eng bay.

IMO the JWT is the way to go, its been proven effective on the non-rev up cars, has a heat shield and gets its air from basically the same place as the factory airbox.
