I know that many of the guys here install their exhausts themselves but i dont have the time or equipment to do this. For those of you who have had their exhausts (namely nismo, but any is fine) installed at a shop, how much did they charge you? The place i went to says $80 for the install and about an hour to an hour and a half to install. Hes saying that since mine is an 04', the rust may have set in and will be harder to take off/put on. If $80 is not a fair price, what is? This is the only shop around here that has dealt with a 350z before. Thanks guys

^^ahh ok thats good news then. So any validity to his other statement? Should it really take over an hour to install an exhaust on an 04' because of rust and such?

No, not if they're using an impact wrench.

An experienced shop can do it between 30-45min with a proper lift and air tools. If your exhaust is in peices like the HKS Hi Power then maybe a few minutes more but it shouldn't take more than an hour. As for the rust, it's nothing some WD40 or torch cant take care of.

alrighty then. One more question out of curiosity. how much would you tip them? For services like this, is it customary to pay alot, or is it the usual %15? i know for restaurants its a %15 but this is a little more hands on and i dont want to leave any bad impressions for any future visits.

if you get out of it for $80 your doing damn good.

I bought my tech's who did my headers chinese food from across the street when my car took 3hours longer than they expected. They thought they were going to knock it out in no time, boy were they in for a rude awakening. Cash tips aren't as good to the person giving it as something like food/beer. Money is Money and people are pleased to get money, but dont appreciate the gesture near as much as something else they would enjoy.

Tipping may sound like an unusual question, but there are times when it is appropriate.

Say a tire shop where you give specific instructions: no air gun and use a torque wrench. Tip $5. When your return, the mechanics will remember your car, and treat it well.

Same with a quick oil change. Is you can returned clean? Tip $5. Figure that these guys and girls are making $10/hour. They will remember who gave them a $5 tip.

For the exhaust question, no tip necessary.

i see. I would love to not give tip, as i already spent alot of money on the exhaust, and money for the install. But i cant help but feel a little...i dont kno wat the word is.

I mean isnt taking off/installing an exhaust a tough job as well? If you would tip a guy who does your tires, why wouldnt you do so with the exhaust too? Not really directed to davidv but to anybody.

When you go to a restaurant, its customary, without a 2nd thought, to tip the waiters.

When you get a haircut, its customary to tip the barber.

When you get your car parts installed, is it not customary to tip the techs? I have never had anything installed at a shop before so this is all new to me

yeah...thats a good price! we charge $120 at my shop to do it. hour and a half or less is about the time to get it done right.

he wasnt lying about the rust...but like said previously...if he is using an impact...he should have no problem.

good luck and enjoy your new exhaust!
