Default Tanabe Super Medalion Hyper Spec Exhaust & Tanabe Y-Pipe Installed

Here is a quick review on the Tanabe Super Medalion Hyper Spec Exhaust with the Tanabe Y-Pipe. I ordered the system from a local shop called Auto Accessory Warehouse Friday night. I was told about a 3-4 week backorder as with every other shop I tried. Well, I got it last night! All I can say is they hooked me up. You might have seen them on MTV's tuner show (forgot what it was called). Great guys and awesome shop.

Ok, getting back to the exhaust. All I can say is WOW! The craftsmanship is top notch. I've dealt with many companies from my previous WRX, EVO, and Firebird and Tanabe is by far the best I've seen. The welds are so smooth and perfect. They packaged the system very well too.

My buddy Will and I picked up the system and installed it in 45 minutes. If anyone in So Cal wants a perfect install for a great price let me know. Will has worked on all my cars and does not charge an arm and leg some places. I called around and the lowest I got was $80.00 installed. They all said about an hour and a half install time as well. It was very easy to install. All the bolts came off with a spray or two of WD-40. The fitment of the Tanabe Y-Pipe and Super Medalion exhaust were perfect. Again, all I can say is WOW!

I had to take off to work right after the install and again WOW! I'm not going to say that it added 10whp. All I know is the sound was perfect. Deep, aggressive, throaty and cruising speed was calm and practical. Deepest sound was from around 2500 to 4500 rpm. I want it louder so I'll be adding Invidia Test Pipes in a few months.

Here is a vid and some pics. Any questions let me know. Thanks for reading.

Cool...nice to see another good review. I'm pretty damn sure I'll be picking this up around xmas time, except with an intense y-pipe instead of the tanabe.

That was probably one of the best sound quality vids of an exhaust i've heard. It's hard to catch the deep tones of an exhaust on a vid cam, but you did pretty good. Great pics as well.

I know you said you were getting test pipes to make it a little louder. Just to let you know, mine got a little louder after about a week or so. The Advantex material burns in (I think it's like a fiberglass or something) and the exhaust note will open up a little bit more. Nothing crazy, but it'll sound a little less 'restricted'.

Good job and enjoy!!! Welcome to the Tananbe Super Medalion family

Thanks guys. I love it. I'm going to try to get some more vids done this weekend. The car was in my garage and I was about 3-5 feet away at the time. I'll keep you guys updated.

The sound clip, IMHO, makes it sound like a civic. Please don't take that offensively. Post more sound clips.

Really, a civic? Do you have any sound clips to back up that statement. I've been around imports for the last 10 years or so and have never heard a Honda sound like that. But yes, I will for sure get more sound clips up.

Don't know if you can answer this from experience, but how does it sound in relation to a nismo? I'm a little worried about getting an exhaust that completely destroys that VQ sound I'm used to, while driving stock.

My Wife has the same exhaust on her Civic Del Sol. Tanabe makes some top notch products. Anyway it doesn't sound anything like a civic. 4 and 6 cyl sound totally different.

Well this exhaust is quite a bit deeper than the stock exhaust.....as I said in my post, it's very hard to capture the depth of an exhaust with a camcorder. Try to listen to one in person and let me know if it still sounds like a civic.

I was thinking about the Nismo but after hearing it at a local Nissan meet I decided not to get it. It was not loud enough for me and did not give me the deep aggressive sound like the Tanabe. If your looking for a tad bit louder than stock then yes go with the Nismo. The Tanabe keeps the VQ sound which I love. I still want more, hense test pipes. Good luck in any route you go.

Great review. I would love to hear this exact set up with some Kinetix HFC's. I have the cats now and I am thinking of this system also. BTW how was the cabin noise???

Cruising in 6th gear or even 5th gear it sounds stock. When I accelerate there is some cabin noise but not too bad. I've been in a Z with test pipes and also had a Tanabe exhaust and it was a lot louder. The set up now is very mellow inside. I'll be posting up more vids this weekend.

Thanks for the info. I've heard the nismo too...was also too quiet for me. If I'm gonna spend this sort of cash, I want something to show (or hear) for it. I'm more concerned with rasp/ fart can sound, but after watching your vids again, I think I will probably end up goin with it. Thanks!

The problem with sound clips is they are POINTLESS . I have the same exhaust and it sounds nothing like the clip. Record on in full dolby digital , it may right then.

Updated videos of Tanabe Y-Pipe and Tanabe Hyper Medalion Exhaust. God I love this exhaust but looking forward to Berks Test Pipes!

First run driving away moderate, return trip full throttle with traction control on... don't know why.
