Better than the most other metals...I mean I don't wanna see a copper heat shield under my hood, do you?

nor silver or gold...they don't worth the input...at least for me...

There's probably a reason why you never see this. That's my 2 cents!

Aluminum disperses heat very quickly, likewise it absorbs it just as quickly.

2. The air traveling into the intake is reduced by the smaller chamber and reduced volume.

3. The cover is of smaller diameter than the stock square hole thus reducing the amount of air going into the filter.

4. There is a high pressure zone where the air has to slow in order to travel in what normally would have been a straight path going back to #1.

Just some thoughts and my 2c. Correct me if I'm wrong. The stock box should be even larger than the oval cover in my diagram so there should be even more reduced air pressure thus allowing more flow.

Yup.

For the 03-06 motors, most people don't realize it but the stock airbox is probably one of the best anti heat soak elements available except for carbon fiber airboxes. The design is awesome, plus the plastic is a great way to prevent heat soaking in the engine bay. What you (the OP) want to do is drop in a aftermarket paper filter like blitz in the OEM airbox and call it a day.

The MR-S idea is cool but only for the MRS mainly because the MR-S's are mid engine and they don't get much air so any kind of cold air is a benefit to that engine. The VQ motor gets plenty of fresh air, it's heat soak that's a problem.

Good luck.

Very true, I wonder how temperature increases or decreases under the different brands' heatshields vs. stock air box.

According to my reply above, lowering the temperature is probably the only key to compact the pressure, so it can suck in more air volume at a given time.

Did you read? Air cannot be blocked like water under the condition.

You may not know the subject, but you don't have to show everybody that you don't know something.

I have degrees in Astrophysics, Math, and ME; I think I know what I'm talking about.

Just waiting for the other experts' thoughts on this forum...so leave it for now...

Yeah, might as well get used to it.. .LOL...I by no means know if it's better or worse, but if you like it and it seems you know your stuff, that's all that matters...Everyone seems to be an "Expert" on these forums..

Come back and talk to me after you get M.S. in those degrees. haha

Then you would understand why I think I can handle a simple intake for my Z.

It looks like a trombone mute!! LOL Since there aren't too many actual gigging "boners", there should be no problem with supply and price.

My apologies to any trombone players out there, but there are a million T-boner jokes. Here are a couple of favorites:

1) What do you call a trombonist with a beeper? An optimist.
2) How do you get a trombonist off of your doorstep? Pay him for the pizza.
3) What is the range of a Trombone? About 30 feet, if you have a good arm.

I'm sorry for getting off topic. I'm sure that I'm the only one laughing.... but lol

Looks like a great concept. But the 'sleave' covering the filter looks like it's too close to the sides of the filter to allow good air flow. Plus, Aluminum is going to heat soak almost as fast as if there weren't any heat shield at all... Maybe you could enlarge the filter housing?... And maybe fab it out of CF or something? Kinda like a Gruppe-M.

i would leave the filter where it is supposed to be a run a tube up through your bumper connecting to that hole. That is what i do with my Injen short ram/cold air extension. Doesn't do anything, but it's the thought that counts

With degrees in Astrophysics, Math, and ME, you are smart enough to know that the modification did not improve the power or efficiency of your engine. But I do agree that it probably sounds different from the OEM box, and if you like it, why not? If you wanted to prove your calculations, I'm sure you'd be preparing for before/after dynos about now.
