My apologies to any trombone players out there, but there are a million T-boner jokes. Here are a couple of favorites:

1) What do you call a trombonist with a beeper? An optimist.
2) How do you get a trombonist off of your doorstep? Pay him for the pizza.
3) What is the range of a Trombone? About 30 feet, if you have a good arm.

I'm sorry for getting off topic. I'm sure that I'm the only one laughing.... but lol

Kinda like a Gruppe-M.
Yes, Yes! I asked Kevin to carbon fiber the heat shield for me. We just order some carbon fiber twill(to match the other CF from Delsa Motor Sports) cloth from EBAY so I will keep it updated. And I will post the pics again once it's done!

Thanks!

In an around-about way I was hinting toward using other materials. Or you can wrap it with a heatshield tape.

Okay why don't I try to help the situation a little since I owned a Mr2 and I own a Z.

What you have put together is a great idea for the MR-S, it won't really work on the Z. The main reason is first the shield is aluminum and aluminum will become heat soaked very quickly compared to plastic (OEM airbox material).

The next concern is the MR-S's radiator is in the front of the vehicle while the intake and engine is in the rear, but the Z's is in the front right next to the airbox. If you have a aluminum cover around your air filter, it will become hot very quickly because of the radiant heat generated by the radiator therefore you'll lose power.

Your best cold air alternative (if you have to build something), would be to build a snorkel hose going from the OEM airbox inlet to the front of the car like the gruppe-m intake, and drop in a aftermarket drop in paper filter like the blitz which I mentioned before.

Heat will rob you of power, plastic is a great deterrent of heat compared to metals.

Hope that helps.

Here's a pic of my old gruppe-m intake hose.

You all sure do put a lot of thought and effort into something that has very little chance of making your car much faster.

That being said, I believe that you'd actually hurt flow by addng that thing, and will agree that the stock air box with a drop in filter is better...

7. And a M3, MR-S, A6 4.2L Quattro, Pilot (Had a 99 Mugen Civic Type R, 03 Spoon S2K, 98 Eclipse GS-T Spyder, 97 Eclipse GSX, 93 RX7, etc)

10. Dyno your *** first

Didn't I say I bought this from PPE like hundred times in this post already? Wow, you just don't listen or read...do you? Still didn't answer me back with what you do for living? or can you not even stand up for who you are? are you embarrassed about yourself to be revealed? I won't waste my time anymore to someone who can't even control their temper and just say whatever comes out from the mouth. Yes, I'm saying you have no brain!
Talk **** while you can without having to show who you are...this is an online forum...right? haha
I call BS on the rocket scientist. You seem to have missed the key point here, which is that what you did will most likely LOSE power. No dyno, no proof. By the way, what does 'Dyno your *** first' mean? Is that some of that Mensa lingo? 174 IQ my ***.

Thanks for pointing it out. You are right, I noticed on MR-S that air sucked in from the side vents does not only flow to the air filter but also cools down the aluminum heat shield fast enough but it doesn't for the Z. I mentioned carbon fiber few replies up. And yes, I got that idea from the gruppe-m intake too. Thanks again for the notes and picture! Helped a lot. I will keep you updated for the carbon fiber heatshield!
