Resonated test pipes rubbing...
I recently had a pair of resonated test pipes installed at a local shop. Paid stupid money to have them put in when i could have done it myself. And now i discover that the resonater is rubbing against the frame of the car right above the heat sheilds.. Its causing extreme vibrations through my car on decell because of the exhaust movement.. I called kinetix and they said to take them off and "Bash" the area that its hitting in with a mallet. Before I go "bashing" my car in with a mallet I have a question. How much do I have to indent the frame to allow enough room for the resonator to have clearence? Is this safe to do?? Also when they were installed the bar that holds the stock cats in place was removed.. The res test pipes dont have a flange or mount to uttilize it.
It all depends on how much of aclearance you have. Just bash in the heatshield as far in as you can for extra added safety.
It's completely safe to do so. Some people even gut it out and have no problems.

I dont even think its the heat sheild though.. It would be making a different sound. Its actually the Frame of the car itself. Its about 1/4 of an inch away from the frame about 5 inches up from the sheilds and it vibrates like crazy when u let off the gas. Do you have test pipes in your car? Do you have the mount the holds both cats together? Im gonna snap some pics of exactly where its hitting tomorrow when i jack it up , but untill then i need to be sure this is an ok thing to do

What kind of crappy designed TP will actually make contact against the frame?
I've never heard/seen this unless it's making contact against the heatshield.
Is it the resonator section that's being rubbed against the top???
Yea I used to run two different kinds of TP(now HFC) and never had this problem.

if you still have the stock y pipe on your car it makes noise with tps....the flex joints i think make it....mine make a rattle noices when i let off the gas but they are not hitting anything
nope. ALL of the tp's Ive ever owned rattle or make contact with something. The hissing rattle sound is also present. From the stock y pipe to the Nismo. Hisses/rattles whatever. It comes from the flex joints. Dont know why.

Yes , its the resonator thats hitting against something. My brother has a G35 and he never had this issue with them , they were taken off his... I think I know which rattle your talking about because my brothers does it. He has Kinetix non resonated test pipes. Trust me this feels like someone is taking a spackle mixing gun and running it under console.

OP: cut your losses and get a set of high quality test pipes and learn the lesson "stay away from Kinetix"
did I mention that I HATE kinetix.

Get FI testpipes...
Ive got AAM's test pipes and the drivers side will rub on the frame as well. There is like a 1/4 gap from the frame to the flange. I also have the stock Y pipe but dont know if this would help to change out. It sounds horrible!

Loosen all the bolts.
Put a 1/2-inch piece of wood between the test pipe and frame.
Lighten the bolts.
Remove the wood.

BTW; there is nothing wrong with Kinetix RTPs or Non Res TPs... I wouldn't get any of their plenums though.
