Unhappy poor mpg

So i installed test pipes and a pleneum spacer on my car last month, and honestly i regret doing so(except that it really made a performing differance ),i used to see about 23mpg,and now im lucky if i can get 17mpg!So my question is,im thinking about getting a pro-tune,or a reflash.would that help with my mpg?I know that im running a little rich with what i have done..and i know that getting some kind of tune done will really help it run smoth,or it would be enough of a differance that mpg wouldnt really matter.cause if not im about to take that spacer off until the summertime.,cause i drive this car about 50miles a day to and from work on the highway and if im not really making power with it,id rather get the mpgs.thanks

I average about 17mpg. That's around normal according to all the fuel threads.

You probably just have a tendency to be heavier on the throttle now...

^Kinda like the exhaust theory, no exhaust allows for better mileage for a while after you put it on because you tend to want to hear it more

rev-ups often go rich after installing test pipes, I've measured this on cipher.

tuning is your best option

You would think so.... maybe the ECU is overcompensating at that point due to decreased backpressure at the O2 sensors? I dunno...

no... I've seen seriously rich AFRs on 97supratt's rev-up after he had just test pipes or test pipes + exhaust

I believe I've seen the same effect on another dyno posted on the forum, but I cannot find either the original cipher graph I made nor the other dyno

Wow, I have been reading these threads and watching my MPG closely.

On a straight highway trip I am seeing near 26.5 mpg. I just filled up with about 3/4 or more city driving and a few CRAZY WOT runs and averaged 18.2 mpg.

Now keep in mind, I am running an APS TT kit with extreme fuel system, 9:1 CR motor with cams @ 15 psi of boost.

I would be pissed if my near stock N/A Z couldn't pull 20 mpg on combined driving

lots of bad traffic in socal... a few hours a week sitting at 0mph equals huge drop in mpg... (I also have bumped idle which consumes more gas at 0mph) I still get 27+mpg on highway trips with no traffic

(I don't feel too bad though, my old Jeep was about 10mpg street, 12mpg combined, 18mpg highway)
