Default APC Mesh Filter

So, as I was cutting up my Injen CAI to make a custom CAI for my vortech I noticed a hole in my filter. I went to Advance Autoparts down the street looking for a new filter and came across this

It's a metal mesh filter. Thought it might be nice and easy to clean. Does anybody have any opinions on the metal filters? Can't find much on the internet about them.

I don't need the small K&N. I made a "CAI" for it.

Those damn things are prob all made by the same factory in china. As long as it filters, who gives a damn. But just about everything thing else with the APC name on it is trash.

That is not the "small" K@N ----Its the one I used when I modded my VT Intake. I enlarged my core support opening so I could pull it out the front---It would be ideal for your set up

That's a bad location for your intake filter. It will suck hot air off the intercooler.

not necessarily. the intercooler, acting as a heat exchanger, uses moving air for convection to cool off the air inside the pipes. the warmer air inside the pipes is cooled by heat/conductive characteristics of the aluminum, along with the temperature of the ambient air.

when you're driving anything past maybe 2mph, the heat pulled of the intercooler will be negligible.

EEZ, the only thing i'd worry about is the filtering capabilities of that air filter. APC is quite a trashy product, but if you ran some kind of test to be sure it filters correctly, that's awesome. you don't want a small piece of concrete or pebble getting into the compressor blades of your cortech.

cleaning is a breeze with metal mesh filters. i to would never put anything APC on my Z...heck any car of mine but i have experience with metal mesh filters from my previous car. i slapped on a Blitz SUS SRi on my Celica, rare piece of intake (price for what you get) but it performed great and of course quality was flawless, none of this re-oiling and waiting around.

alright I'm not feeling so comfortable with this metal mesh filter so I will probably take it off. I can't find any filtration documentation and don't want to risk it. Time to buy the tried and true k&n, just gotta find the right size.

i just ordered one of these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

there's absolutely no way you can go wrong with a k&n filter. i mean, if it requires re-oiling it every so often, why does it matter? you take your car in every 2-3000 miles to change the oil, an air filter re-oiling job won't take away from your life.

great choice
