Has anyone heard of an aftermarket Y-Pipe with 2 1/4" (57mm) or 2 1/2" (64mm) inlets and 2 1/2" outlet? I want to go from 2 1/2" HFCs to a rear section with OEM dimensions.

 

I've spent hours looking, once upon a time, couldn't find one. (thread is out there if you search, but nothing came of it so don't bother)

Maybe just go with a VQ35HR y-pipe, I assume it fits the 03-05s

 

i got stillen y-pipe on stock exhaust, perfect fitment btw.

seems like the tanabe and 5zigen are the closest fit since the hks one is designed for their catback.

This is good info and put me on the right track. Kinetix made one that would work perfectly, but it has been discontinued. I found that HKS makes THIS ONE, and it's definitely very close. I do have the HR pipe on the way (the price was right), and I'll find out the dimensions when it gets here. Anyone have an HR Y-pipe handy that could measure the inlet/outlet real quick? If not, I'll post the dimensions after I get it.

 

i remember seeing a member who ordered one but i dont recall the dimensions on it. the hks is a good fit but since it is made for their catback, the flange might not match up the oem midpipe. i have been going back and forth on the same issue. i am planning on picking up the tanabe due to dimensions, cheaper than the 5zigen which no one seems to have and the positives i have heard about the quality.

 

yes I do remember the HKS being the closest, but the design for the HKS y-pipe is CRAP imo.

 

I had an hr y pipe. The price is indeed good (200), although I never installed it on my 05, I got under the car when it was on lifts and everything seemed to match up fine. The only thing is there are some extra mounts on the head shielding that won't bolt up but that shouldn't be a problem. The hr y does seem to be a more free flowing design than previous years.

 

Actually you can find a ypipe to stock dimensions on ebay, granted the quality may not be as good.

 

- The HR ypipe is like ~1 inch too long

- Try tanable, it merges with a 70mm ouput, "cloesest" to stock

- I would recommend you to go do a Dr. Gas reducer mod on the ypipe, if you insist to change up the ypipe and stay stock for the rest of the exhaust

 

the only ones i could find were 3" output. the ones mentioning 2.25 or even 2.5 were describing the test pipe sizes that came as a package deal. there is a ztek brand but they do not mention their dimensions.

 

I thought DE exhausts fit the hr equipped z's. Is this not true? If so, wouldn't the y pipe be the same length? (I could be wrong )

 

Good to know. It's also quite pricey considering the HR pipes can be had for next to nothing.

How did you conclude that the HR was 1" too long? I saw a pic on here last week of the HR y-pipe laid on top of the earlier model, and it was EXACTLY the same length. I'll see if I can find it. I was more curious about the pipe diameter.

Thanks jonnylaw. Your referenced thread shows that the DE and HR y-pipes are indeed the same dimensions, length AND diameter.

 

Installed the HR Y-pipe on my revup today. It bolted up perfectly. 2" inlets, 2.5" outlet. Had to remove a couple of metal 'aero' covers because the HR Y-pipe is much wider at the back than the revup, but other than that, 'like a glove'.

 

since you took some of the heat shielding off, does the hr y pipe have any of those nasty crush bent section where the pipe goes down 2" or even a little less like the DE? also would you mind saying you paid for it?

 

Didn't take off any heat shields, the pipe is intact. What I removed was the two aero shields normally attached to the car, outboard of the rear section of the OEM Y-pipe. I looked 'inside' the Y-pipe through the collector, and it looks really clean and smooth. I got if for free, paid $40 for shipping. Cudos to Tac-M who had no use for it, and didn't try to make a buck off a fellow Z owner.
