Anybody else get rasps with hfcs and nismo when the car is cold? takes about ten mins for rasp to go away, and sometimes theres a few milliseconds of rasps around 2800rpms still? I have metallic cats so that must contribute to some sound.

I must say I have a set of Berk's with the brackets ready to install in a few weeks... i also run a Nismo exhaust. I do hope these cats hold up well, at least better than the last time i had HFC's, which cracked after about 4k miles. Granted those did not have brackets. I'll definitely post an update after install with fitment observations.

so is it ok to run with cracked cats for a certain amount of miles?

in other words, if im on the highway with 50 miles before i get home and the cats crack, would it be okay to continue the drive home and then take care of it, or would i need to get it checked out immediately?

Well what is the worst that can happen? Think about it. It's just a crack in the high flow cats that could cause air to leak out under the car. I do not see a threat to any vital component.

anyway... UPDATE

I got the Berk HFCs put on.. and WOW, what a difference in sound! Completely amplifies the already great sounding nismo... i love the sound and im always on the pedal now so my mpg is hurting.... i actually cant believe how much louder the cats make the exhaust sound, but in a good way... a GREAT way!

The only problem is this raspy rattle im hearing when im on it at the high rpms... its more obvious in the first 10 minutes of driving and then goes away (not completely, but much much quieter).. Is this normal? is this the RASP that people are always talking about? i thought HFCs werent supposed to rasp, and only the TPs do...

havent really felt any performance improvements, maybe a little bit more torque (more apparent in the lower rpms), and maybe a bit better throttle response... or maybe its all in my head...

and i decided to leave the nismo y-pipe... hopefully the brackets do their job.. im keeping my fingers crossed

EDIT: one more thing.... during the install we noticed that the distance between the y pipe and the aftermarket cats (where they bolt together) is pretty significant (before you tighten the bolts which in turn pulls the y pipe and the cats together)... at first i was nervous (almost felt like they were the wrong length), but they came together fine in the end and we checked for leaks and all was good, so i think we're ok there....

HFCs can give rasp too, but to a lesser extent than test pipes. I'm sure you can live with it.

Post sound clips and I'll let you know if anything sounds abnormal.

Negative. That is a soundclip of Berk HFCs paired with Nismo exhaust.

Yup, berk hfc + nismos.. thats Allen331s ride.
BTW nismo + HFCs do rasp a little for 5-10 mins. Only a hint around 2500rpms.. but it goes completely away.

Recently had my berk ceramic hfc installed =D. I actually barely notice a difference in sound in the lower rpms tho. Most the change is around 3k to me.

I have a 07 with nismo exhaust and it might be different but the rasp does not go away. Really loud for the first 10 minutes or so then sounds better but the rasp only goes away a little. I think the nismo (baffled muffler) just does not flow smooth enough for this much air. I have had these for about three weeks.

Also these are metalic hfc so they are different than the ceramic.

I just welded little braces on the tabs of my Kinetix HFC because the tabs ripped off completely, and left about a 1 1/2" hole in the side of the cats, and they were also cracked where the pipes bend. I salvaged them, but we'll see how long they last now. I braced them up pretty good...they probably weigh 5 lbs more now.
