Why are manifold spacers so expensive?
I understand that $275 is cheap for 15hp but it is ridiculous that you can buy a oil pan spacer for $100 and a manifold spacer is kind of the same thing or concept but it costs so much more. It's just a piece of plastic or aluminum cut into a shape!
If you want to wait it out we are in the process of making our own which will be a good bit cheaper than current ones on the market. Ill post as soon as we have something.

Wouldnt recommend skunk2 lot of reviews and leaks are the biggest problems id go with aam or MD
They could be made cheaper, but if you could have one of each kit in hand to see how much engineering detail goes into each you would see a clear difference. There is a large spread in quality of materials, quality of engineering, ease of installation, reliability of installation, reliability of longevity and so on.
The engineering details are all cost drivers... Some details that greatly enhance user friendlyness, safety and reliability, require special tooling to be made to make a part that some companies choose not to do.
Speaking for the MD product, no compromises are made. Its designed to the same engineering standards as if it was an aerospace component.
Although cost is always kept in mind, the design objective of the Motordyne products is not to be the cheapest. They are designed to give the customer the easiest/most reliable installation, best performance and most reliable, problem free long term results.
A lot of R&D goes into the Motordyne designs.

So if you had a CNC machine trace out a Intake Manifold gasket and cut it out of 1/2", 5/8" etc. aluminum or some sort of polymer that wouldn't essentially be a manifold spacer? To me that seems very simple or at least not any more difficult that making an oil pan spacer which goes for around $100. I don't have any first hand knowledge about what it takes to make a manifold spacer, nor have I ever made one so I can't speak from experience. Of course it is common knowledge now that manifold spacer yields horsepower gains and what size to make them. Someone had to figure that out and make one to begin with just like a light bulb is a simple thing yet Thomas Edison had to invent it so if that is what you mean by R&D I can understand that.

Just make sure you double check for any leaks.

MD spacer isn't just a piece of metal....lots of other things are included in the price as well. The engineering costs have already mentioned, but on top of that you get Coolant Control Valve, all the extended bolts required (and a spare one to boot), detailed installation instructions, strut bar spacers/etc. You could kinda lump that all into the engineering aspect of the product, but I felt the need to mention it.
the MD spacer is definitely well worth it's price.
