i dont plan on getting a different exhaust. Im either going back to stock or keeping the Nismo. I like the lower pitch of the stock sound as opposed to the higher pitch of the nismo

i just thought of something.

Hydrazine, you said that the nismo mid pipe would work with a stock y pipe. So from this, i can gather that the stock y pipe and nismo y pipe has the same diameter openings?

If this is true, then i should be able to do: stock muffler + stock mid pipe + nismo y pipe? The reason im avoiding putting back my stock y pipe is because it appears it has some damages in the braided area.

No. The outlet of the stock is 2.5. The Nismo is 3.0.
But they are compatible.

so i can bolt up the stock mid pipe and the nismo y pipe without making any mods to it correct?

if the stock mid pipe is compatible with the nismo y pipe, why is the stock muffler not compatible with the nismo mid pipe? In both cases, the diamter openings are not the same

In case youve never shipped something, its very simple. Ive shipped many things via ups, you just take it to the store and they box it up for you and send it wherever, not sure what the hassle is unless youve never done it. I though it would be a pain before I did it. Also from what I've read, the braided part can be damaged and not actually affect the pipe. I think its just a covering. Your not the first person to complain about the lack of sound in the low rpm's. I guess because its freer flowing? Thinking twice about the nismo now lol.

^^really? its that simple? Ive never used UPS and ive only dealt with USPS and i know they wouldnt do that for you.

and i havent heard any complaints from others about lack of sound in the lower range. The only complaints ive read here about the nismo is that they tend to crack test pipes/HFC. And one other complaint was that it was too loud...

Anyway if possible, i would be doing stock muffler, stock mid pipe and nismo y pipe since i found out that using the stock muffler on the nismo y pipe and nismo mid pipe wouldnt work. But im not sure if this is possible without using any type of reducer cone. Waiting for someone a little more knowledgable in this field

Yea, ive shipped a bunch of things, including a HO alternator once lol. You fill out the shipping info and they box it up and ship it out. Easy.

In flow systems intended to have a low pressure drop (like an exhaust), sudden expansions are not good but acceptable. OTOH sudden contractions are really bad.

So in your case, the sudden expansion from 2.5 to 3.0 at the end of the y pipe is acceptable.

A sudden contraction from 3.0 to 2.5 at the end of the midpipe can be done, but fluiddynamically it is taboo.

ok i see that you said the sudden expansion would be from 2.5 to 3 (from stock mid pipe to nismo y pipe) and you said that sudden expansion is acceptable but not good. What do you mean by not good? What problems should i expect to occur?

also, you said that if i were to go stock muffler with nismo mid pipe i would need a reducer cone but when i mentioned stock mid pipe and nismo y pipe you said it was acceptable. Does this mean that i wont need any type of reducer cone? but i kinda doubt that since i dont see how 2.5 will bolt up with a 3 in.

will something like this work? http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/pr...oducts_id=3674

Its a technicality. Technically, it will create pressure drop but it will be negligible, so you can do it anyways with no real drawback.

You still want a reducer there for optimal performance.
And the flowmaster reducer you have linked is actually a good one. It has a very shallow angle which is good for contracting flow.

^^^thanks alot for all the help. this will be a decision that i have to think over before i do it because since the reducer has to be welded on, theres no turning back once ive done it. I need to make sure that the sound wont come out bad if i do it. I also have Berk HFC on my Z. But the welding makes me have 2nd thoughts on doing this.
