Test Pipes -- No Engine Code
Ok, well I just finished my first mod on my car, test pipes. Installation was hell. Cat bolts were rusty and froze solid. Took me over 2 hours a full can of WD-40, cheater pipe, hammer and one broken ratchet to remove them all and the O2 sensor. About 30 minutes to get the new pipes on though.
Here is the thing, after installation I let the car idle for 5-10 minutes then drove it around the block. I was driving "spiritedly" at that for a lot of it, about 15 minutes of driving around, a little highway driving included. Got home left it idle for another 5 minutes or so while checking for exhaust leaks and ... NO check engine light! How long should it take for the code to trip? It would be awesome if it didn't but I was fully expecting an error code almost immediately.
Any body else installed test pipes w/o it tripping a code?

No anti-fouler
No I have not yet installed an anti-fouler but I plan to.
Yes the car does pull better it seems. I get traction light kicking on in second gear at 4.5-6k rpm. I don't remember it doing that before. It feels like I gained a decent amount of mid range torque, which is what the car really needs.
Next up is Jim Wolfe popcharger and AAM angled intake spacer. When I have those installed the car is going back on the dyno so I'll let you know exactly how much power gain I am getting.

Here's how your test pipe looks:
If your CEL hasn't come on yet, it will.

Still no light
I took the Z to work today, 40 miles one way. Took it to lunch and drove around for about 15 minutes. Still no light. I am going to go ahead and put the anti-foulers on this week when I get time.
My test pipes are from SGP racing here in Houston. The rasp from 3-4k is really annoying, I am thinking of getting some HFC and keeping these test pipes for my twin turbo kit.

CEL tripped
Ok code registered yesterday on the way home. I was sitting in stop and go traffic. I need to get anti-fouler installed.
I am used to my Eclipse turbo, it would trip codes almost immediately.
I have my first question for you guys: With intake, test pipe, and angled spacer should I look into getting my ECU tuned or something like an Apexi Fuel Controller? It seems like the car would be running awful rich if I leave the stock ECU settings to determine fuel based on the O2 readings it will be getting.

You don't take it for inspection when it's throwing a code. Get the non-foulers, or whatever you need to do to FIX the reason for the CEL, then clear the codes. After several driving cycles and a few miles, the ECU will turn READY (or whatever the condition is called), and then you can take it in. After fixing a problem with the evaporative emissions cannister, I drove it 3 or 4 times for about 120 miles, and took it to the inspection station. They hooked up to the OBDII port and it passed.

quick question when the car throws the CEL, does it hurt the performance of the car with the CEL on or does it not matter the car is going to run the same. Reason y im asking is y would you put test pipes on when its going to hurt the performance of the car? Thanks
