Intake Plenum Info
So wait....Let me get this straight. The current plennum is at a discount at about $400 and you have to replace the strut bar. Crawford is making a different design that doesnt require strut bar replacement, and looks pretty. But priced around $550. Does this new style produce the same gains or better? Thanks
The new plenum I am talking about is not being made by crawford... It is by a custom fabrication shop in CA who I will be working with to test and distribute some very nice new products.. I don't know the gains or cost of the crawford one but I'm sure it is also a great unit. The shop is aiming for noticable gains while creating a great looking product at a great price. I should have pics and dyno results by the 1st week of July.. PLease email me if you are interested as I am receiving ALOT of emails....
Thanks,
Jason

so it is true that if you get the crawford plenum you will need a new strut bar (which is included) and you cannot use the plastic cover that goes in front of it, correct?
this new one is polished, does not require a new strut bar and you can keep the front engine cover, correct?
I like the idea of the new one if that is the case and the dyno shows improvements.
I'll wait for the dyno but I am interested.
what about warranty? I guess because there is no core charge we could put the old one back on prior to going in for service!

That’s right, j's350z plenum sounds like it will rival the topsecret intake system where you have dedicated runner for each port from single inlet can. This type of intake would have to replace the upper an lower plenum. We would have loved to make something similar, but time and money is a big concern. Fabrication and tuning on one of those intakes can be a bear. It was decided (in all our infinite wisdom
) that we would design around Nissans runner system and just give it more air. Quick design and cost effective for us. Plus it made excellent power that’s reproducible and noticeable.
For those of you still complaining about prices, how bout not buying anything. A polished intake plenum cost around the same price as our performance piece. Guess what . . .demand is high and supply is low and we all know supply and demand control pricing. There are people asking if they can pay more and get it sooner! Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the core returns and UPS as we make more. There are over 30,000 Z’s out there and a big market for performance parts. Not to mention the G35 sedans and coupes which have the same plenum.

BTW, if you do decide to spread the wrath on customs, pick me up something cool while you are there
It really does not matter what it is as long as it is cool.
You are correct in your statements... For anyone who is seriously interested, please email me with your contact info and I will add you to my quickly growing list. Please be patient, I should have the intake within a week or 2 and then will post pics and dyno results... I will email everyone with updated info as I receive it from the manufacturer.. I am as you are excited about these great new products and we are all in the same boat... Waiting for ways to improve our Z....

as far as turbos or superchsrgers like that procharger that will mount up front, a bigger plenum will only improve their performance. If you go the Stillen route, the plenum gets replaced by the blower .
Anyone got a pic of this intake???
I'm gonna do this thread right, and I have a brand new Stinger grounding kit to top it all off.
The turn arouns is how much you are willing to pay for shipping and how fast people send back their cores.
I prepaid shipping overrnight both ways and have the UPS Label and mine will go back Monday.
So you see some of it we control, how bad do you want it and how much do you care about others getting it?
My core goes out Monday so that's one for someone on the list and as was mentioned more air and 19 peak HP is ecellent bang for the buck and an easy bolt on so why fx it if it ain't broke?
Of course you could drop a crate engine in this sucker and have wheelie bars on the back but I'm just a 12 second man myself. Anything faster than 11.999 will get you booted off the track without a roll bar and mine is a daily racer, I mean driver
i can concur, if i can make a z06 wet his pants, dont haveto beat him, just put the fear in him, im good, im focusing on road racing, 12s will just be a very pleasant side effect of Turbo.
Doug already dynoed the plenum. +9 peak HP, +20HP at 6300RPM. Do a search and there should be a dyno chart or results somewhere around here. No matter what, getting a plenum is a good, cost-effective idea because some cylinders aren't getting proper air flow at speed.
As for the warranty, this won't void the engine warranty. You just have to know the law and not back down if the dealer tries to make a fuss. But it isn't hard to put the old plenum back on if you were worried. Takes about an hour and a half or so. You would be paying an extra $225 though for that (in)convenience.
As for the Top Secret plenum, I believe that was a custom job for their turbo set-up and isn't available for sale to the public, as of yet.
