Crawford Intake Plenum install pics from door to engine
It's definately noticable. It's torkey, sounds great and runs like a scalded dog.
What more can I ask for? Besides a Super Charger.
I will say though that I need to call Doug on this core deal tomorow andthat the STB doesn't wanna fit very well and is asthetic only, it doesn't go down to the shocks like LS1's do.
It may stop flex but that's about it but the hood doesn't like the new STB.

I'm trying to like the STB it's well made and designed, but I wouldn't buy it again just the Plenum and I can't be more honest than that. It has clearance issues at it's new location at first the hood didn't even close straight, now it's loose again out there while I think about it. If you loosen all the bolts and have a friend hold it down while you tighten it it may fiz this I'm waiting for a buddy to try this.
What put me in the 12's? The right Nitrous and Fuel Jets (not the numbers ZEX is giving out BTW) and the right plugs and the ET Streets. I'm sure the plenum helps but it's more of an N/A mod.
I like it though and could care less what it looks like if it works, and work it does.

BTW Max- Congrats on breaking into the 12's. The car is progressing along nicely.
I just had a long talk with Doug. I enjoy talking to him he has a real lade back attitude you don't get out here in California when calling people.
He started walking me through the instructions.....
See. I don't use instructions normally, I just starting bolting stuff on. He is like turn to page 8 picture 6 and I am like HUH?
LOL
Turns out this thing comes with a manual.
RTFM!
I am and after doing so not only did I install the STB wrong I used the stock bolts instead of the fancy new ones. Good news is that Doug is good people and will work with dumb people like me without being an *** (Anti ZEX plug here
)
and the STB is ver versatile. I can take off the STB while the brackets are in place and fix this minor issue.
After having said all this I say, yes I would buy the STB and I would read the instructions carefully and call Doug when you hit a snag.

MaxHax, HOLY ****, is that you with all the Tatoo's? lol
I dunno, the plenum still looks like they just cut the mid section off and welded a plate on, seems like we could get more from a nice port/polish job and maybe cut and grind off the mid towers, probably more work than its worth im sure.

Not saying it wouldn't work, but try to grind it out and then post your dynos. I suspect it won't do very much good, because the room just isn't there it doesn't seem to me.
I think I remember reading that the front cylinders are getting something like 30% less air than the rears, though it just doesn't make a lot of sense for Nissan to have designed it that way as the front cylinders would be running WAY too rich unless the ECM knows about it and compensates (in which case adding the plenum would mess with that aspect of it); the car obviously runs fine in stock form.
"You think you remember reading?"
No offense but that is sort of like saying my baby's mama's auntie told me......... etc etc.
I hope we are not heading down the "ECU" negates all mods road again.............
ughhh
LOL
Of course the computer will take some time to adjust to the new air flow but I don't think it will negate it.

He probably read about the flow bench results here:

No, actually I read it in this thread:

That one'll work too.
Sorry I sounded so vague before; I was too lazy to do a search at the time.

If you guys have read much around here about the AF ratio the Z's run at WOT, you'll notice it runs pretty rich. My personal theory is that this rich condition might be in the fuel maps to compensate for these front cylinders that are not getting good air flow.
The ideal setup probably would have it pulling air from the front of the engine anyway, instead of going all the way up to the firewall and making a hard angle into the intake, but the hood design wouldn't allow a straight in intake (ala, say, an LS1). There is very little clearance under the hood, which is why the strut bar wouldn't work over a higher plenum (notice even the little dent in Doug's right in the middle to clear the hood brace). The stock plenum is a compromise design in several ways. This is one small step to help it.

Well it seems to me that it looks a little rough, too. But it's practical. If you wanted it Not Rough you'd probably have to forge a whole new plenum, and we're talking several times as much money.
So this appears to be a reasonable compromise for a good price. Especially if it works well.
I'd like to see some specific before-and-after dyno results. But I'm definitely intrigued.

I dynoed my butt last night in Manual mode of my Auto in 1st 2nd and 3rd all the way up to 6500 and by that time I was approaching 100 mph FAST....

That's my butt dyno graph up to 6500rpm's , get it

BTW,
I didn't have the STB wrong there are different bolts for different production dated for the STB.
Poor Doug.
I will tell you this on a cool 70 degree day I could beat that 12.55 record and with my SC in the mail and the 35HP jets I am talking 11's.
I ran the 12.7 missing the two inner bolts in the intake that cause a vacuum leak and makes it sound like you have a full radical cam at idle. It was fun with all the looks I got ha-ha.
I fixed the vacuum leak, I'm waiting on the proper bolts for the STB.
