I know that you should mount the EGT sensor as close to the exhaust port as possible for accurate readings. The issue I'm having is with Defi EGT sensor, it comes with instructions telling me that i should install it into the collector instead of 2-3 inches away from the exhaust port. Also, the bung is too long and extends to much into the header tube. Would a exhaust shop know what to do in this situation?
1) Here you can see that the extended bung

2) Heres what i think it should look like

3) Heres a picture of the sensor + 1/8NPT

4) Defi Installation instructions.

Heres where i would like to mount it. (Teal dot)

I would like to know if the EGT sensor should be installed as displayed in pic #2.

Assuming you want to install you EGT sensor close to cyl#6. Then, yes, you have to remove the headers to clean excess metal shavings when you tap your headers. Also, the limited space available will make it difficult to weld the bung.
But if your planning on installing it on the collector. Then, no, remove cats and use a shop vac to clean up metal shavings.
