i checked for vibration. I was too lazy to take it off and look down the pipe though. under the car, i can hear the noise coming directly from the flex joint. Ive checked for leaks everywhere, but i dont have any. If you get under the car, you will be able to tell exactly where the sound is coming from. If youre not lazy like I was, id suggest taking the x pipe off and trying to see if you can look at the insides for carbon or things that look out of place, expecially at the flexs.
And also, just to make sure for yourself, you can check for leaks around the flanges - just run your hands around the flanges...make sure the car is cold, common sense i guess haha. (i just dont trust local exhaust shops - at least ones around here, i went an hour away to get to AAM and have them look at it)

i know how annoying that sound is. its the one imperfection that i cant tolerate haha makes me angry eveytime i step on the gas. Its actually still there im waiting for my new pipes mine is so bad that it "hisses" while decelerating.

Now that I think of it, I have never checked while decelerating. You mean going up to high RPM and leaving it in gear right?

Yep. this is how mine happens: I climb to around 3-4K, it hisses first around 2.8 on the way up. Then, let go of the gas, and let the rpm fall back down and stay in gear. when i hit around 1-.9 it hisses again. This one is a lot easier to hear because there is no engine noise. see if its there

Just did a run around town in my car. Ran it up to 6k and let it die down to about 1k. Didn't hear anything.

How long should it take for carbon deposits to be shown around a leak?

Im not really sure. The way i found my leak was running my hands up and down the flanges. the leaks were very obvious and could be felt.

go to AutoZone or somewhere of the sort and get some gaskets, they have gaskets of all sizes for a bunch of cars, i'm sure you can find one that fits

I tried that awhile ago. They only can lookup a car model's gasket and go grab it from the shelf. They don't have the ability to sort by pipe size. So if anyone knows a car that has 50mm piping I could go that route.

Haven't had time to look under the car yet, I'm hoping to get under it this sat if it's not raining.

wow, they must be pretty lazy to not help you find one. when i went, i had the muffler in the trunk, and they gave me a handful of gaskets to test fit, then i gave him the best fitting one and told him i needed a little smaller or larger, he then gave me a few more, etc. i found what i was looking for

I have test pipes with an aftermarket exhaust. From what I understand, hissing as the car decelerated (no throttle) is completely normal with test pipes.

But I also get a slight hiss as I go WOT and on stand-still revs (hissing as it accelerates, not deceleration). I'm wondering if this is also normal or not with test pipes & aftermarket exhaust.

IIRC, there isn't any power loss in small exhaust leaks (?).
