Default how about insulating the CAI?

some years back i saw in a magazine a product that you wrapped the pipes (of the headers, perhaps) to insulate it. can't remember for what part it was for but, it was some kind of wrap to insulate. anyway, i was thinking that since the injen CAI works by taking in cooler air from the front of the car, that by the time it goes into the plenum is not as cool. i think is because the metal pipe from the CAI being so close to the engine heats up that air. well, what about insulating the pipe with some kind of wrap (i'm sure they sell something like that) so it can protect the metal part of the CAI to maintain the air inside as cool as possible? it will not look very pretty to say the least, but, i think it will definitly work better.

just a thought...i'd love to know what you guys think

As long as you aren't sucking in hot engine air, I seriously doubt insultating it would make a difference.

Think about how fast the air is moving through the intake. Do you think it's in there long enough to actually raise the temperature of the air?

A fraction of a second inside a warmer or cooler intake isn't really gonna matter.

You'd probably do better to insulate your headers with the pipe wrap you saw advertised.

Big project.

Cool. J

Or look into Jet Hot coating, which can be a bit pricey, but worthwhile.

well, i understand what your saying, but, i think that it's not just the metal that is being heated, but that 'zone' inside, that volume, about two feet of it. if, that stretch of two feet is hot enough from the metal, conducting heat, then, it may affect the air coming in, even though it is coming at a high velocity.

...could be wrong though
