Its an AEM cold air intake, basically the same thing as the Nismo intake, the filter is in the driver's side wheelwell. It will improve not much of anything, it may sound a little lounder then stock, possible slight increase in hp, and because I do not see a bypass valve on it, it will increase the likelihood of you hydrolocking your engine exponentially.
If it bothers you that its on there, trade someone for there stock airbox, there is always someone out there that will do it.

You can get to the filter by removing the drivers side inner fender plastic cover. Its easy, just a bunch of snap bolts. Or remove the entire front bumper.
You can install a bypass valve or any shop will be able to do it. (Basically cutting the intake pipe into 2 pieces and putting the valve between them).

Thanks.. Another question(maybe a dumb one, but hey). Why wouldn't the previous owner have installed the bypass valve? Is it absolutely necessary??? I've been driving without it since January when I bought the car and I've been in a few bad rain storms with no problems, atleast not yet...

To answer your question, Tha bypass valve is not completely neccessary. It's only there as a safety precaution for your intake. This way if you ever get caught in deep water your engine won't hydrolock. And how that intake goes all the way into the wheel well, it would be a good idea for you to grab one of these. That is if your going to keep it. Just google "350z bypass valve" and you'll see examples and what it looks like.

If Im not mistaken AEM has an optional bypass for most of their CAI but you do have to buy them seperately
