Question JWT Pop Charger + 350Z = Car Turning Off Every Other Day

Ok, my first mod was the JWT Pop Charger. When I was doing my research I did read on here about people complaining their cars would turn off. I was concerned but it had never* happened to me. Well, never until I got a new exhaust system. Now it's doing it every other day. It is pissing me off to the point that I might end up selling it here on the forums. My question is, I have read that the car turns off but only under high acceleration. But when it happens to me, it usually happens completely unexpectedly when I am driving normally. I have also read that it happens once in a blue moon and for me it is happening every other day. The exhaust I got was a true dual from the cat back with only 2 resonators, one on either side. THANKS!

That would really suck... Driving along then the car just wants to turn off... Might want to go back to stock =)

JWT Popcharger blows your engine!!!

No but really, I haven't had any problems, and I have a popcharger + exhaust.

Hmm, that's weird. I had that same problem when I first got my JWT where I would accelerate hard and then when decelerating if I put the car in neutral it would shut off. I've never heard of it doing it that frequently or under normal driving circumstances. I wouldn't go as far as to sell the car (if that's what you meant in your first post, maybe you meant the JWT, ). If it keeps doing it you might just take off the pop charger. Another idea might be to reset the ECU (directions can be found if you search for "reset ECU.")

Just disconnectthe negative battery terminal for 20 minutes, then hook it back up, start it up, and drive the car around for a while.

Also, make sure your MAF is clean.

I have heard rumors on the car shutting off in neutral while going 80 or so. I drive stick and putting it in neutral at 80 is not something I practice. I tested the theory and it never shut off on me.

I will add that at 1 point the car would shut off. Only when first turning her on if you didnt give her gas she would shut off. What it ended up being was the filter was dirty as well as the sensor. After cleaning filter and letting it air dry for a day or so. I put it back on and hasn't happened since.

Wow I was wanting to get one of these but I dont' know now. I had this problem on my old TT VR-4 when I switched BOV's. It was letting air out too fast for the ecu too read.

Is the pop charger letting air in too quick? I saw K&N sell a short ram intake. Any issues with this one? I just loved the videos I have seen on the JWT. It sounds amazing but thats not enough to sacrifice safety and reliability.

Do you think it is because of the 06 ECU or are the older models effected. I have an 04 ZR touring.

Wink

My pop charger is really* dirty. So I may want to start off by cleaning it and then if it happens to me again, I will reset the ECU and if it happens after that, I will return to stock airbox. Thanks a lot guys. You gave me different ideas to play with. To answer some of your questions. I was not going 80mph, a lot less actually and I do think it was after putting it in neutral. No I am not going to sell my car (lol) just the JWT if the couple things I do don't work. THANKS guys! I'll post my findings so that if someone else is having similar issues they can find an answer.

Get a K&N recharge kit and clean the filter correctly.
Get some MAF cleaner and clean the MAF correctly (isn't cheap to replace).

This should help out a lot.

why are you 100% sure it's the popcharger's fault? maybe something's up with the exhaust, not installed correctly? throwing any codes? take it to your shop and have them check for codes.

Call me stupid but I checked under the hood today and the intake filter was completely off. I had checked after the first time it happened but it was at night so maybe it was really loose and I did not notice. I'm sorry to have wasted your time guys but you had great suggestions and speedy responses. THANX!!!

P.S. I hope the engine didn't suck in anything while it was off. =(

Well at least that gives me some more confidence in getting the JWT. I will just be sure that mine is secured.

JWT is the most harmless thing you can buy for a Z ....

OP, funny to hear you found the filter off completely, hope for the best.

Hey kenpo 350Z, I would recommend you get the pop charger. Like you said, just make sure the clamp is very nice and tight and you push the filter as far back as possible. Other than this which was my bad, I’ve never had a problem with it and it sounds great! No Filter = Max Air Flow LMAO! Had me laughing nothix.

i don't think its the pop charger.... i put the jwt on about a month ago now... and the only time my z shuts off is right after a high speed ride (+/-105), and i'm like trying to fit into the garage... i think that's only due to some fuel regulator computer thingy... not the pop charger...
