Default Hks Install Problem

Hello All,

I have a 2003 350z and I recently purchased the HKS Hi Power exhaust. Along with all the rust issues with removing the bolts the installer came across with another problem that one of the pipes was directly hitting the differential which he said would cause a really annoying rattling noise. He said he’s gonna have to bend the pipe which isn’t gonna be a problem just cause a discoloration in the pipe do to massive heating. I’ve read several reviews about this exhaust and I’ve never heard anyone having this problem… Is there any concern in slightly bending the pipe? I just don’t want it to affect the natural performance of the exhaust and not to mention the sound.

Thanks,

HKS gear usually fits 100%. You sure it is an authentic item?

true, there should be no problems, I just put mine on and it couldnt of fit any better. I guess it depends on how much he is going to bend it but it shouldnt make much difference at all in performance, it may cause the cans to sit uneven or something though....sounds like you may have a x02 or a ebay knock off, did you buy it new?

I can't see how this can be a knock off though it came in the HKS box the packaging was pretty neat... I bought it from CVR motorsports which from what I hear has a pretty good reputation...

I looked through some X02 threads and a few others but could not find an answer to my question which is “is there any distinct diff in the Xo2 and the real HKS?”
I know the Xo2 is known to rust but I am not gonna wait that long to find out.

If there isn't any disctinct differences that must be why they sell so well.

Quality I assume, plus HKS is a "name brand" of sorts.

yeah, you can tell by comparing the tips. The x02 look pretty bad. Also, the Y-pipe is all chrome looking, the HKS has a darker tint to it, especially where the flex is.

Actually I just noticed that the shape of the smaller canisters that sits above the muffler are different. If you look at the Xo2 carefully you will notice that on one side it doesn’t have that dome shape like the real HKS has… is this a valid statement? Also the tips of the Xo2 look to have a more dull color.
