Default 5AT Zs and drone with certain exhausts

I have read that certain exhausts are more likely to drone on 5AT Zs more than others. Having experienced it first hand with the FI Intimidator and TurboXS, it got downright head pounding sometimes, I am done with bass and loud.

It is down to the NISMO or HKS Hi-Power Ti. Does the HKS drone at all for 5AT Zs? I have read all kinds of posts from several searches but nothing specifically about the combination.

This will be my third exhaust as the drone is scrambling my brain. I turn 40 this 4/19 and need some relief! Thanks!

LOL! - I thought about it. MC's #33 NISMO Z looks good. I got the Grand Touring 5AT for a great price so can't complain from a cost/saving standpoint. Of course, only to spend the savings on flipping exhausts.

If the Z goes, it will be for a GT-R. The price is just too ridiculous though. You can give me a nice present for my 40th B-Day.

Anyone? Anyone?

I think HKS is really loud, so that is much more likely to cause drone than the NISMO.

I have the nismo with my 5AT, and i think it drones a little in the upper 2k rpm range. Not much, but it's slightly noticeable. I would think the HKS would be a lot louder than the nismo. I would go nismo. I'm happy with it.

40 y/os know the term "LOL"? haha didnt know that

well im gonna tell you right now, all the stuff people say about how the Nismo sounds EXACTLy like stock but louder is all BS. It does not sound JUST like stock but louder. It sounds a little different.

At first when i got it, i was really excited about it. As time went on, i became more and more disappointed in the sound because it was too quiet at times. I added HFC and was still ehhh about it. But iono, its grown on me now. I thinks it okay now, but still sometimes too quiet. Only when you get on it will it be loud. Oh yeah, the first 10 minutes of driving right after you start your car is pure audible bliss (that seems to be when the exhaust is loudest).

Dc Sports exhaust, while rare-ish..., sounds awesome, and
I got a killer ebay deal on a new one direct. Not to plug, but
its construction and quality surprised me - tough.

I may be hitting 40 but I am not clueless. My first 10 minutes is nice and smooth, followed by LOUD.

Wife, 3 young boys and all of their activities, house, retirement savings,.........

I can buy it, but should I buy it. Why I am steering clear of any dealership showrooms.

wow, you actually believe the type of transmission the car has affects how the exhaust sounds? more like how the exhaust is made determines if it sounds like crap or not.

the guys saying that the GT-R is a good price...

dont your dealerships have crazy mark ups? I think that the GT-Rs are hitting the 100k range and even OVER. I have heard of some dealerships with a price of 130k (over in California).

Anecdotal observation that because a 5AT Z has the non-revup vs. 6MT has the revup engine, they may sound differently depending on gear and engine speed with different setups. True how the exhaust is made determines sound. But, I am asking what other 5AT owners have observed with their cars.

The mark up is incredible. What happened to Nissan USA managing the pricing situation with dealers?!

Well documented that the FastIntentions has a drone with the 5AT that is virtually non-existant with the 6MT. When the TC stalls around 2k, the exhaust will drone, esp in cold temps.

This is what I have read about the Fast Intentions. I had the FI and have experienced the condition. Do you have any insight on how the HKS behaves? I am on the fence about buying it to try out. Thanks!

Get you some removable silencers or perhaps some active tail silencers.

I went with the TurboXS exhaust prior to starting the thread. It exhibits the drone phenomenon around the TC stall as well. Without the silencers in, it's annoying. With the silencers in, it's not bad. Right now, silencers are in all the time!

Anyone with 5AT and the HKS Hi-Power?! Nobody?

Yea, solves all his problems till the tranny starts having issues like half the MT transmissions that are out there for these cars.

But hey, at least he'll look cool, right?

Riiiiight.
