Default Question for Header users.

Hey for those of you with headers I have a question. Nismo doesn't supply any gaskets and I was told to have my customers use the old ones. Is this right? Did you guys use your old ones or new ones? Do the Borla's come with gaskets? Last thing I want to do is jack any of my customers around!!

Probably the reason for not using new gaskets for the Nismo headers is exactly b/c of who makes it, Nismo probably made it that way to be cheaper and to make them look as much stock as possible.

When you consider all the labor involved in installing headers, I would think it would be cheap peace of mind to install new gaskets rather than run the risk of leaks by reusing old ones. Plus reusing gaskets seems very counter-intuitive to me. I'm a hypocrite though - I'm still using the original copper crush washer that you are supposed to change with every oil change.

Also, it has been my experience with other vehicles that the OEM gaskets are often superior to header manufacturers' supplied gaskets.

The Borla headers ARE shipped with gaskets. At least the ones I refused last week had them. Hmm, maybe I should of kept the gadkets. jk

Why did you send the Borlas back? Want some Nismos.

Default Nismo Header Gaskets

I installed Nismo headers last week & used the original gaskets! I see absolutely no problem in using the originals.

Thanks for the replys all. I finally got someone from NMC to tell me straight up that the gaskets will be fine to reuse. Glad to hear I don't have to tell my customers they need to spend another $60.00 on top of the headers.

When I put a Hot Shot header on my 240SX it also said to use the original gaskets. I used the original 60,000 mile gaskets with some high temp (red) RTV around the ports and I never had a problem with leaks.
