Tanabe super medalion hyper /apexi n1 /nismo
First of all thank you for coming in!
After reading many threads on this forum, and listening to the videos on youtube, my choices for exhaust boil down to followings:
(1) tanabe Super Medalion Hyper (2) Apexi n1 (3) nismo
I like the note of these 3 through listening to video, but i never listened to any of them in person, so I have no clue how loud each of them really is.
I actually don't care much about the hp gain,(of course the more the better)and i change the exhaust REALLY just for the sound.
MY QUESTION is :
(1) I want to stick to the stock tone (like many other ppl), but i want it to be significantly louder than stock.( I understand loudness is different for everyone. I prefer it to be loud, but not too loud that i can't even listen to the radio. i hope this helps) Would any of the 3 exhausts give me what i want?
(2)Among these 3 exhausts, which is the loudest? which is the quietest? The only exhaust i had before was a Greddy sp2 for the rx8, how's the loudness of these 3 compared to the greddy sp2 ?
(3) Which one sounds most like the stock tone? I really want to stick to the VQ tone!
(4)I used to consider also Greddy Evo2, but by listening to it in the video, it seems to lose the stock tone. Is that true??

you may not get too many responses as there is a FAQ thread dedicated to exhausts laying around.. Hang out for a while and browse past threads alot of people have added valuable imformation.. In short it's all personal preference..
Tanabe is louder than Nismo, and retains the tone a little better.
Also the Tanabe is pretty loud at WOT, but on the freeway its about stock sound with the cruise control set.

Tanabe would be my choice (biased). Some qualities it has are it doesn't look like the stock exhaust...doesn't have the issue that the Nismo does that it hangs crooked, sounds stock but amplifies just right and is absolutely quite/no droning during any speed unless you give it some WOT.

For Tanabe, what's the difference between Super Medalion Hyper and Medalion Touring other than the loudness, like hp gain, how deep at low rpm etc. All i know is, On the tanabe website , it says one's below 93dB, and the other is 95dB.

For Tanabe super medalion hyper, does adding a Y-piple make it a lot louder? or just slightly?

The diff. mainly is the way the tips are. The touring has the double-walled rolled in tips while the Hyper has the single-walled tips (look bigger IMO, not sure if they are). Adding any aftermarket y-pipe does not make a significant difference in sound.
I have the A'pexi N1 Evolution dual exhaust. It's not the loudest, but it's definitely louder than stock or Nismo.
It's perfect for me IMO. Not too loud, and quiet when cruising. No drone in my experiences.
This is the brief video I made, in which it's only revved to like 3-3.5k rpms.
