SO I picked up my Invidia N1 catback from a local member yesterday. I was going to do the right thing and take it to a shop, but I figured ah what the hell it's like 6 bolts how bad can it be?



20 minutes figuring how I was going to get my *** end in the air without damaging the Vizage Type A rear.

1.5 hours to strip the midpipe nut and break a muffler stud.

1 busted knuckle

I was like fugg this and took that ish up to Midas and dropped it off. How the hell is it even possible to get the nuts off without stripping or snapping the studs? I let the PB lubricant soak for like 20 miutes too..

Also, will they be able to chisel out whats left of the stripped nut and stud on the midpipe and replace it with a bolt and nut? How much do you think the install will be? Thanks guys...

Well, I used my fingertips. The damn thing stripped so easily...

I took my car to the shop to get the exhaust put on. My stock exhaust had only 15k miles on it but the bolts were so tight and so stuck in there that they had to cut and pry out almost every single bolt. They charged me $100 for all the labor and install of everything.

Whew... Thanks man... So they are able to knock out the old studs after they break them without wrecking the stock exhaust?

 

the only that got wrecked on my install were the bolts. Took them about an hour to everything too. Midas may be different, i had taken mine to an exhaust shop so i'm sure that wasn't the first time they had to deal with what i brought in.

 

I'm guessing the car has seen some winter road usage/wear. I had an 04' that had been in Texas all it's life and the studs / bolts were rusted on really tight, but I would spray with PB Blaster and use a wrench + hammer to try and loosen it. If it didn't budge, it got another shot of PB Blaster and another nudge from the wrench + hammer.

It probably took three tries for two of the bolts, but they all eventually came out without stripping.

 

 

AGGGGGGHHHH!!! WTF Midas just called and said they can't get it on the lift with the kit???? The car isn't even dropped! I was like "Take the front bumper off." He said no..

Who shuold I go see? I'm gonna have my boy take it to Mieneke down the road and hopefully they can get it on. Is there a certain type of lift needed to get a car with a body kit on it?

I had mine done in 1 hour, no cheater bars, and 50k miles of east coast rain and driving. It shouldnt be that hard.

 

Dang man, thats some sheety luck. Hopefully you will find a shop that knows what they are doing.

 

Why don't you just ask the local member who you bought it from where he installed it and how much.

It's really that simple.

 

lol..so much fail in this thread it should be two of them

but acutally i feel for phreak, everytime i work on the car, the simplest job turns into a 3 hour ordeal covered in fail. The only think i did that ever went right was putting my wheels on

 

This reminds me of the time I disconnected my positive battery terminal to get a power wire terminal off of it and dropped the nut in the battery compartment....

5 minute job turns into 30 minutes

I know how you feel man. Mine was a lot harder than I thought. I almost gave up a few times, but I HAD to get it on. Failure was not an option. I used a rubber mallet and just beat on the wrench to break free the bolts. Fun times while the car is on jack stands Got two hours of sleep. I thought I was going to die the next day. The concrete floor nearly beat me to death over the 4.5 hour period wet noodle style.
