Default Test Pipes on N/A

I have a 05 NonRevup and I this week I installed Kinetix Resonated Test Pipes and a Stillen True Dual Exhaust with the Resonators cut and replaced with straight pipe. I definatly feel like I lost power and the RASP is discusting when jumping on the pump. I am bringing the car in Tuesday and I am looking to do the following (since I am N/A - currently)

A. Put the Stock Cats Back on

B. Put the Resonators back on the Stillen

C. Do both A and B

Please let me know your opinions for my current setup, more mods that I've done are in my Sig so you can get an idea.

Looking for the best way to restore or Up my power like Stillen says it does with their exhaust and also kill the RASP!!!

Thanks!

Definatly B you shoudl have listened to the exhaust first without them removed

If its still too raspy for you after that put some resonated TPs on

Thanks, I actually have Resonated Test Pipes right now as it says above, I have Kinetix. Anyway, Would the Resonators on the Exhaust silence the RASP but still give me back my power or should I go with Option C since I am N/A? My main concern is my power and then the RASP.

You shouldn't have felt power loss. And if you're saying the rasp is that bad and loud, then what you may be hearing is an air leak. So my suggestion is to check for leaks.

the rasp should only be coming from the resonators you took out then and you really shouldnt have felt a power loss

Yes indeed it is very weird that I feel a power loss, I was able to chirp 3rd with no issues not I can barely chirp into second, very odd, all since I put on the Test Pipes. So what I will do is have the Exhaust Resonators welded back on and see what happenes...Most likely I will be doing this on Wednesday and will report back...=(

HFC might be the way to go, but with Test Pipes why would I need HFC? Who knows.

So today I put back on the resonators at the muffler shop by my house and it quited down the RASP about 85% but still some RASP here and there depending on the gear I am in and how high the RPMs are.

Thinking of trading it for a Nismo, I am not running anything that needs a True Dual anyway.

If you take off the stock cats, it will rasp. I've heard HFC on stock exhaust and it had rasp.

BTW, do not get the Nismo if you are not putting the stock cats on. It will be a LOT louder than the Stillen with test pipes.

HFCs or TPs and no resonators = RASP.

It's the cold hard truth. Even with resonators, as you've already seen (or heard), there is still some rasp. I had to add a resonated X-pipe (in addition to leaving the resonators on) to my Borla TD with HFCs to completely eliminate the rasp.

So just choose between having a loud exhaust or a clean-sounding one.

You are right, damn TPs and HFCs, I absolutely HATE RASP. I am going to put my Stock Cats back on and just have it like that. Not too much of a power gain anyway from TPs or HFCs and since I will be going to Turbo it really wouldn't matter for me anyway. Ahh well, I tried.

Really, stock cats and Nismo would be louder than Stillen with TPs, thats crazy! LOL

Decisions, decisions. =)

I just installed the mrev2 and 5/16 iso spacers last weekend. All I can say is its the BEST mod for N/A. My friend was in the car when I took it for a ride and he said that my car is definately faster than any 350z's stock with bolt ons he has ridin before. It's worth the money.

Yeah man... take it from me because I went from Nismo to Stillen because the Nismo was way too loud, especially the drone.

I will take a video today when I get home of my Stillen and let you guys hear how it sounds with the TPs.

The above Stillen sounds cleaner than mine, maybe its running on stock cats? Could that be why there is no RASP?

Stock cats usually prevent the rasp, but that being said... there are good exhaust combos + TP/HFCs that don't rasp at all. You just have to really research.

Not only that but it will rasp a lot more in the cabin than it will outside of the car.

When I installed my test pipes I definitely noticed a loss in low end torque (getting off the line). But seems to pull much harder up top. I have Nismo exhaust and headers and it tends to drone around 3K when cruising but sounds great at WOT.

rgeist554 ... I am about to have the Borla TD installed with test pipes, what was the major issue you had? What was the setup you ended up with from the engine on back?

If you're getting resonated TP's you may not get any rasp. Chances are low though.

The only issue with this setup was the rasp for me. It was always there if you were revving your engine. (Nice deep sound revving up... then RASSSSSSSP on the down rev. This made the exhaust seem half-assed and cheap to me. I was embarrassed to show it off while revving. ) The rasp wasn't as bad when driving... but it would show it's ugly face when you started to get WOT.

In the end, I just got the Magnaflow Resonated X-pipe (must get resonated or you'll just rasp more). This just goes up in place of Borla's H-pipe, which is where the rasp is coming from. It changed the exhaust note very slightly, but it was for the better imo. Now I love revving it and showing it off. You'll probably have to get a shop to install it though. As the Magnaflow X can slip-fit one end of the exhaust just fine, but the other end requires welding. (This cost me about $300 total for parts + labor and a good shop)
