You still could've made an exhaust that was at least a stock diameter (60mm). And 60mm is 2.3622 inches, which means that the difference between yours and stock is negative .1122. That's over a tenth of an inch - nowhere near 0.001 you claimed. Of course that's a very small difference, but so is .5 inches. Every little bit matters, which is why I brought up the diffuser fact. It is true regardless of whether you choose to believe so or not. Of course, it has very little effect on regular daily driving, so most people don't care when it's taken away and replaced with higher performance, better sound, and/or unique looks.

I hope your next exhaust turns out better. I'd suggest going with a true dual set up with a muffler in the middle to act as the x-pipe. It seems this has gotten good results.

point taken. ill admit that i had no idea the stock was 60mm. i wasnt that meticulous, because like i said it wasnt about hp.

on the next one i will be though. and it will be true dual. never done the muffler in the middle, but i see how it could work. ive actually got my own design for a crossover pipe that i wanna try, and get dynoed.

i just dont wanna sound like a d**k, cuz i really do appreciate peoples input. i just dont like when people spout off about stuff, and then call you an idiot. i apologize for bein so nasty.

I'm not sure how much research you've done on custom exhausts and those that are out in the market, but for one, Fast Inentions makes their true dual exhausts with a borla muffler as the x-pipe and they've said it gets rid of all rasp. And don't worry about what's been said. I think we're all at fault for our own negativity. No need to apologize.

Haha, I rarely post in the public forums and I only post to help those in need of assistance, answer necessary questions, etc. Last night, I guess I was being a bit harsh with my comments when I could've just ended it with just a warning. Sorry about being a douche, guys. I promise the sand is out of the vag.

411z...mad props to fabbing your own custom setup..for like what 50 bucks?...that is freakin amazing, even if it does tend to steer away from the norm in the methods or road you chose to take. Alot of aftermarket systems for this car are major $$, whether or not all the research and testing have gone into these systems on the big name brands is another question. You slap the name ARC, or Greddy on something and right away its pretty much an accepted item in the community..and lets face it, a few pounds of savings, 3hp more, blah blah blah....You did this on your own by your own means w/ your own skill set not stepping on the shoulders of others and taking the next step, but instead trying something out on you own 1st... very commendable. In my history of being in the Z community there are very few people that take the initiative to pioneer something on their own from start to finish...just kids trying to start new fads w/ hard to find $$ items or very odd dress-up schemes., or trying to match a look they saw in a import add. Take every comment here lightly is my only suggestion and not to stop what your doing or how you do it...Peace....

I am pretty sure (i.e. I remember having measured) stock exhaust INNER DIAMETER is 2.25" almost exactly, maybe outer diameter is 60mm

i think exhaust pipe is measure as the OD, so that would probly put the measurement at 60mm from a 2.25 ID. I think the OP's 2.25 was the OD

So I have a question, whats the difference in taking the car to a exhaust shop and have them fab up a custom true dual 3" exhaust and buying an exhaust that is already made like greddy. Is there really that big of a difference when it comes to performance on a turbo setup? Im just wondering because a custom exhaust would be alot cheaper then buying a $1000+ greddy

^^^

btw: the pipe i used was 2.25 ID, and is often times how pipe is measured, at least around these parts. the stock exhaust was indeed 2.25 ID, as measured by a tape measure. i didnt argue with the 3hree5 because my measurement method was not meticulous and i could have been wrong. OD is not a good way to measure pipe, becuase piping varies in thickness. ID is a constant.

so to correct you 3hree5, i did not use smaller piping than oem... lol no hard feelings, just giving you a hard time

Stock exhaust inner diameter is 60mm (or 2.3622 inches) which is greater than 2.25 inches (or 57.15mm).

The whole OEM system, Cats/Y-Pipe/OEM mid-pipe is like 60mm.

ya i'd want 3" bc built motor and 600+ hp is in the cards after the bonus this year. My SC is close to 450hp and my injen feels a lil small already. I forgot you have a 350z and I have a G35, so prolly couldnt be done without the car.

nice job though.

if your really interested, pm me and we can talk about price or whatever. it would just be alot of work because i would have to take out my whole system and then reinstall it after making yours. but i would do it for the right price... and i gaurantee you would see better performance out of a 2 1/2 system than 3". definately not on overall hp, but torque and overall perfomance for sure.

i started from where the front of the resonator would be, and worked back. it turned out very clean, and more importantly, it cost me less than $50.00. i did all the work myself though. someone else could probly do something similar for about $175. i took a video, but i dont know how to upload it just yet. some insight would be great. i snapped a few photos with my cell phone, so ill upload some more later. heres one to get you started.

Nice clean installation. Good work.
