Sounds about right. Why not install it yourself?

(don't have a driveway/garage and don't have any car buddies here)

The mechanic said b/c there's a Y-pipe it'll take extra 2 hrs... I called around and most places charge $180-$285.

because there's a Y-pipe it will take an extra two hours...

tell him to check your blinker fluid.

I guess if you dont have a place to do it, then yea, have someone do it for yu. I like doing my own work if possible so I know its done right and I dont get taken to the cleaners. I know for a FACT the Y pipe doesnt make an install more difficult, why, because I took off mine and it was probably the easiest part of the whole entire exhaust install process....that is some funny ****.

yeah I agree with the Y-pipe stuff, don't understand why that costs more??

I really suggest you look harder for someplace to install it. $180-$285 IMO is a huge ripoff. I have a semi-write up on my exhaust install in my cardomain page if it helps.

two hours? that is a long time to do this. one hour tops, and that is with a beer break.

The two hours for the y-pipe is retarded.

You already have a Y-pipe... all they do is remove six nuts & bolts from the cats and two more from the Y-pipe to muffler. Two hours to do what takes 10-15 minutes (assuming the bolts may be rusted) ... fail.

I think the worst part is removing the muffler from the rubber hanger things.

I paid $180 to get my header-back exhaust installed.

The shop is trustworthy though and they charge a premium. I don't regret it one bit.

should be no more than 1 hour of shop time for a competent mechanic.

Agree. Don't shop for bargain maintenance. You end up with an ill fitting exhaust that rattles. Is that worth saving $50.

Initially he quoted $185 for the cat-back, but talked him down to $120 if I go back to him again for future repairs. He says systems for G/Zs are harder to install than I4 Hondas because of dual headers, cats, Y-pipe, dual exh.
