Default Motordyne single exhaust vs JIC Ti

I'll let the pictures do the talking...

The setup I had in the 227whp dyno was:
2.5'' metallic HFC
JIC Ti
Ebay Y pipe (2.5'' inlet, 3'' outlet)
Crawford V5
P/P MREV2
JWT Intake
The temperature was 72F, 30% RH

The install:
The install went okay. It was done at MRC. There was an issue with one of the bolts, the one that connects the Y pipe to the midpipe. That area is too tight to work around. The exhaust needed some muscling to make it fit, but its just a prototype so thats okay. After 20 minutes of muscling, it fit.

The sound:
Sounds deep and sloppy. Sounds fantastic. Best sounding single I've heard. Kinda reminds me of a quieter version of the APS 3''. There is some drone in the cabin, but that is expected for a single exhausts with 2 small resonators. Its not THAT loud. Its quieter than my JIC..

The power:
It made 9whp over an already well setup car. The power gains are more than impressive. On a stock car, I can see 15whp very feasible.. Great setup.

weak, the link is down! I'll let Tony @ MD fix this.. I don't have the originals right now.

So with the motordyne single, you made 9whp over the JIC Ti?

I'm curious if the JIC Ti matched with the xyz pipe from motordyne would have similar gains.

Oh and the JIC Ti is a good deal lighter, yes?

Thumbs up

Nice horsepower increase! I can see your logic as to the how vastly the gains could be if one went from stock exhaust to MD exhaust.

So you say the JIC is actually louder. Interesting..Do you have soundclips of the old JIC setup? It would be awesome to compare before/after soundclilps.

Awesome results!
Its on the high side of what I expected but expected none the less.

The two main performance drivers of the MD system is the XYZ merge collector with optimized scavenging and the Shockwave diffuser doing its job of pressure recovery.

The merge collector final design came after many months of trial and error. Fabricating many variations and testing them on the dyno. Some worked very well, some did OK and some failed miserably. It was the cumulation of many data points that a performance map was generated and this is what pointed to the final optimum.

After the collector was optimized the remainder of the exhaust system was designed anound none other than minimizing pressure drop.

Diffuser optimization is critical to rocket and jet propulsion performance, and although its not common in automotive applications it still comes down to pressure recovery. (RHO*V^2/2G) Making it easier for the engine to pump out the exhaust.

Note: As the power level goes up (as in FI) the effectiveness of the diffuser will increase by the square of the HP. So it makes more of a difference fast.

I know a lot of people wont like the look of the diffuser, but to a Propulsion or Mech engineer they are beautiful!

OTOH The difference in sound is about what I expected. The resonators on the MD system are not large but they are top quality.

is the xyz merge collector the same thing as the xyz pipe w/ a resonator?

The resonators are DEF top quality. They are small but they really silenced the sound. I was surprised, its quite streetable.

Edit: Awsome # tony! congrat again!
And OP, thanks for sharing info!!

I hate to sound like an ***...but for all of those mods, 227WHP is terrible and unusual. The car doesn't seem healthy or very favorable of the mods, as evidenced by the poor torque numbers too. So it doesn't seem like a great idea to use such a weak car. It gaining 9WHP makes me think that perhaps something else is going on. I just don't feel like we're getting the clearest picture.

It'd be nice to see multiple runs posted of both the before and after dynos.

Its a Dyno Dynamics dyno. It produces numbers quite a bit lower than a Dyno Jet.

^+1. DD makes veeeery low numbers. I trap 100mph in 100 degree heat and i'm a crappy driver. That is more indicative of power. The DJ numbers will be 13% higher.

Also i forgot to post, but those two numbers are the best of 3 or 4 runs each.

WHICH JIC Ti exhaust where you running? i bet the 80mmm which is designed to created no back pressure for turbo applications... N/A a lil back pressure helps..

Also if you are doing exhaust comparison it woudl have been nice to see a test with and with out the ebay y-pipe for both cases

I am running the 3'' single with 1 outlet. They make 2 exhausts.. a 3 '' single w/ a single output, and a 3'' single w/ dual canisters. The MD exhaust is also a 3'' single w/ a single outlet.

The ebay Y pipe is not a bad y pipe. Its a copy of the nismo, but with 2.5inch inlets (which match my HFC) and a 3''outlet (which matches my exhaust).

Oooo its the entire system as a comparison? Ebay y-pipe + JIC Ti vs. Moterdyne xyz-pipe and shockwave.

I thought you just replaced the y-pipe back...

no, its a full system. This weekend i'll swap out the 'shockwave' portion for JIC y pipe back and see how it sounds and feels. I think the power will decrease slightly and the JIC will be more streetable lol.
