Intake and fuel economy?
Many performance magazines indicate that a car that breathes better will usually yield better gas mileage. That being said, those that usually install air induction systems and such are those that seek higher performance numbers. So one may realize better gas mileage after installing an air intake, but then that same person will probably run the car harder for both performance and auditory (low bass, growling) reasons.

In reality, those that install performance air filters usually want more than better gas mileage, i.e., performance, sound, possibly better aesthetical engine bay. If you have the discipline to not push the engine a little harder than usual, then you will probably realize better gas mileage. Many magazine (research) statistics have indicated that cars with air induction do yield better gas mileage under normal driving conditions.
