Default How bad does your exhaust smell w/ test pipes?

Ive been kind of lurking and reading around here and while people have mentioned it, i havent really seen a whole lot of talk about it. I just finished up my exhaust over the weekend (nismo exhaust w/ titek test pipes) and it reaks. i expected it to smell, dont get me wrong...ive run turbo cars w/ no cat(s) in the past, but this is a different kind of smell. the exhaust has only been on the car since saturday night so i expect some of the smell is everything breaking in/burning off....but man, shes stinky. anyone else have a bad smelling car or is it possible i have something wrong? it doesnt smell like coolant or oil and it doesnt smoke, just smells...doenst really smell like fuel either

I installed my cat back exhaust last night and immediately after I did a test run on the high way, she was smoking and "smelly". A lot. So when I returned home I disconnected my negative battery terminal to reset the ECU and I drove to work this morning and she was fine... You may have to get a reflash or tune is my best guess.

The only times I would really smell the exhaust/testpipes is when the car was stopped.

But from what I remember my Z smells worse than my last car that had no cats (5.0 Mustang). But either aren't really that bad IMO.

you will smell when at a stop light, parked, rearing the car back. It smells pretty bad. I hate idling in the garage even with the garage door wide open.

+1... Also, a new exhaust will smell for a day or three - that in combo with the test pipes will knock you for a loop - ha!

hahaha, aint that the truth. i made the mistake of letting the car idle in the garage w/ the door to the house open. within minutes it smelled like the black death....and yea, i only really catch a wiff of things when i'm stopped at a light. when i romp on it theres nothing.

and as a side note, i dont know why people hate the nismo/test pipe combo..yea theres some rasp/tinny sound between 2k and 3k but u can shift around it. sounds great at wot

I've actually grown to like the noxious toxic smell of no cats. Can't say people behind me like it very much though. Lol~ :-)

You'll smell it anytime the car is stopped. You get used to it though, not as noticable after a while.

All new exhaust components are covered with residue from manufacturing. Give it 100 miles to burn off.

A lot of people with z's tend to ***** about noise or smell due to test pipes.

I don't mind it.
