Question on Exhaust Install
Alright, I bought a Bassani Exhaust and AAM Test Pipes. I brought it to the shop today to install because I'm leaving FL tommorow to visit PA and I really wanted to hear this bad boy before I left. Anyways, the initially quoted me at a 2.5hr job, which I thought was a bit steep for an exhaust install. I then get a call telling me its going to be a 3.5 - 4 hour job. I was like WTF! They claim the hardware was rusted at the header/cat connection and it was a difficult job.
Are they screwing me here or is this really a legimitate quote? 340-360 dollars for the install. Seems insane to me since I got wheels/tires/exhaust/springs all install on my previous car for a TOTAL of 300 dollars. Any opinions?

360 is too much. I've seen guys say 150-200 bucks.
^ +1. Thats definitely a ripoff. It usually takes the average Joe 1.5 hours or so even with some badly rusted bolts but it takes a full auto shop 3.5-4 hours? So they've never heard of PB blaster or similar products? Sounds like B.S. to me.
I really apprecaite that man, but I'm down far south near Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks though!
The funny thing is, the one guy is like " I've been a master mechanic and been around cars for 20 years" Blah Blah, when I said I don't think the CEL will throw in my 2003. Jerkoff....
I'm pretty dissappointed in this because I was refered there by a friend. They seemed like legit guys, but I was clearly wrong.
My boss at my 2nd job said I can take it up to his garage and he'll help me put it on when I get back. I'll have HD video soon after! Thanks for the response.

Anyways you are better off with your boss's offer. I have a great set of tools, but haven't been able to convince my condo complex to let me install a lift in my two parking spots
.
alright well I found out what the deal was.......Supposeably the headers/cats/manifold hardware is shot to ****. Rusted to hell and getting it off is gonna be a *****. I am gonna get it on a lift next weekend to see exactly what they are talking about. If this is the case though I am gonna need a bunch of new hardware. Damnit.
I live in FL, and the mechanic said that it looks like its seen some winters. Keep you posted on the results.

no **** its rusted, it was rusted probably a year after you bought your car.
No doubt, installing Test pipes is a *****, but justifying that bill over rusted bolts? Give me a break.
WD40, and about 5 coats of it with 10mins in between coats and they'll break loose. I have an '03 that had 40k miles on it when i broke my bolts for the FIRST time on my cats. I thought the bottom side bolt was going to make me cry lol but it came off.
Its going to take 4 hours for someone that has never worked on a 350z before. Figuring out the Test pipes and which angles to get to them at is giong to take your mechanic the longest time. he may be experienced but if you have never worked on a Z before, expect an extra hour or two standing around, trying different angles.
2 hour job for someone that does them regularly.
