Default cstm single exhaust 2.5 or 3"?

Im going to get a single canister exhaust made, what size piping would you guys recomend?

Im seeing 3in would make the best gain but i have the stock y pipe, since the outlet on the stock y is 2.5 i figure that it wont make much difference... right?

I wanted to get a megan y but it seems there not worth the money (i cant find one for less then 150 shipped).

Also can anyone suggest a place to purchase a canister, hks, greddy, something of the sort.

I have searched and havent found any info on single canister pipeing diameters so if needed bring on the flame.

thanks to those who can chime in with help.
