I used a bolt. I don't know what size it was, I just put one that filled in the hole tight, then used the factory clamp plus wrap it with black electrical tape. So has anyone done this yet? I want to know if I wasted my time doing this or if it was worth doing this. So far I still like it.
I removed just the driver's side baffle last fall, and I used a 1/2" copper (tubing) cap fitting from the plumbing section at Lowes, along with the factory clamp. It fit perfectly and seals better than a bolt.

I performed this mod this past saturday (feb. 28th) on my 08 base and I am kind of on the fence about it. I used 3/8 galvanized tubing 5 inches long, on the passenger side. And on the driver side i used a plug ( the kind that looks a little like a white sewer clean out...i dunno if that makes sense to anyone) also 3/8 inch on the driver side.
as for the mod, I was previously running a set of k&n drop in's on an otherwise stock motor. I didnt really notice any additional noise from the intakes. And i am now noticing that the car seems more anxious to stall from a dead stop. Not sure if I am being hyper sensitive or what but i am penciling in about an hour this coming saturday to return it to stock.
sorry for the lengthy first post. hope someone finds it useful.

well i am attributing the fact that i didnt really notice much sound gain to the k&n's which i have had for a few months now. i originally noticed a bi more growl when i installed them and so did my brother. as for the for the tendency to want to stall, i am gonna reset my ecu as i havent done it since the original k&n install and see if that changes anything.
Well, I did it this modification this weekend using a 3x8 galvanzied pipe for the passenger side and a large 1/2 bolt for the driver's side. All and all I am very pleased, the car "seems" to be run much smoother, even a little quicker on the throttle response, but this is all according to my butt dyno, now before all you nay sayers and guys who say there is no power gain, I agree, there isnt, but it does "sound" a little throatier, but not louder, which I didn't expect with such a small modification anyway, but it seems to breath a lot easier. Oh, and my idle is much smoother. Like the above poster stated, I feel it got rid of potential disturbances in intake air flow. Well, thats about it. Is there a difference, yes. But don't expect the car to sound like you are running nismo cold air intakes. Thanks OP.

Just did the mod tonight, all and all cost about 10 bucks. Got the copper 1/2" top for driver side and crome 3/8" x 6" plumbing piping for pass side. I agree, it deff sounds more throaty and worth it. I didn't have plyers so the clamps were a bit*h and my thumb is soar.
As for the ? about the idle, it wasnt so much of an idle problem as it just seemed to make the car a little more sensitive when you were first taking off (just more prone to shudder when starting off in 1st). i also tend to be very hypersensitve to things like that so it was more than likely nothing.
Anyway i have now upgraded to a CAI and it is the sheet. i will be putting up my K&N drop-ins in the market place sometime soon.
For anyone thinking about it doing this mod, i would say go for it. it doesnt hurt anything that I noticed, and it does make the car sound a bit throatier under load.
