Default Test Pipes

Ok, I did a search and found a bunch of threads where people mention wanting to install and use "test pipes" but none of them explain what they are? Are they pipes (mufflers) that are being tried instead of actual 350Z specific exhaust systems like Borla, Injen, etc? For example Flowmaster or Magnaflow? Or are they something else entirely?

They are straight through pipes that have no cat what so ever that conect between the exhaust manifold and the y-pipe. Or betweek short headers and cat-back exhaust... Most examples that people are putting in have O2 bungs.
