Default HKS knockoff...complete waste of money???

now...i'm not one to buy parts for my Z off ebay, but i came across this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-08...Q5fAccessories

which is a knockoff of the HKS Hi-Power:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HKS-H...Q5fAccessories

I know you get what you pay for, but they look SO similar that i'm wondering if the gains would be similar. Anyone have experience with this exhaust? complete waste of money?? Ive got a K&N CAI and a Motordyne 5/16" spacer and im just looking for a decent free flowing exhaust so that i can get a reflash and hopefully see some power gains. Any advice?

Plenty of people buy this exhaust, for many of them it rusts. I would look into the ARK Grid. Look in this forum for info on it.

Members buy and install knock-off exhaust systems and are happy. If you are comfortable with a knock-off do it.

Say no to knock offs, but if you do get one, don't be one of the ***s who goes around telling people it's an HKS.

Get the ARK knock off. It has the X pipe that everyone swaps in anyway.

I have always went the cheap way with my exhaust's. I was actually looking into buying this same exhaust from ebay, then I said, why not spend the extra money and get a name brand that you know is going to be worth the money. Now that I have ordered my exhaust instead of having it done by an exhaust shop(no mandrel bending machines around here), it made me feel much better knowing that a high quality product is being used instead of something off ebay.

Besides the potential rust issues I think it would be ok. You can polish it frequently to keep it from rusting, I know someone who does that with no issues.

It's 304 stainless, it won't rust any more than any other system of the same series stainless.

Alot of knock-offs advertise their systems as 304 but they turn out to be a much lower grade of SS.

Im not usualy a knock off part guy but for certain things like metal pipes ill make an exception. I bought and installed one about 2 months ago. No rust /no trouble at all. Sounds nice and performs well. I use to be all about name brand **** with my s13 but after actualy tracking/driving the car hard and destroying countless exhaust systems from being low I got a Apexi N1 knockoff for free from a friend. Not one thing changed from putting on the $200 exhaust compared to the $600 one that was on it. Metal pipes are metal pipes! If your scared of rust throw a coat of high heat paint on it.

Nothing at all wrong with that exhaust...it sounds killer and has the same bends and flow as the HKS. As far as rust, use this:

http://www.caswellplating.com/vht/vhtclear.htm

Take your exhaust out of the box and spray each piece (in layers) let it cure, then go get the exhaust installed. No rust-no worries!! Just take the time and do it right.
