Default Brand Exhaust vs. Local Custom Exhaust

Looking to do exhuast for my Z.. Wanted some opinions on buying brand name exhaust like nismo or borla which seems to be a lot more pricey or should I go with a place near me called Lou's Custom Exhaust. Just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with a situation like this..

here's what you should do, go around and listen to other peoples exhaust and go on youtube and listen to some and then decide which one you like the best. There is no best sounding exhaust, just what you like the most. as for the custom exhaust it would be kind of hard to know what it sounds like unless he made the same one for another Z.

I dont know what keep your head down means.. I am new to buying parts for my Z which I got not too long ago and I am sure everyone has been there I just wanted some feedback like s31 gave me.. The custom exhaust place said he can adjust the sound to my liking and then make the final install after I have decided. I have searched on you tube and really like the nismo

If you know what you are doing, you can get a custom exhaust. But if the guy starts laughing when you hand him your credit card, you got screwed.

This is a good choice, I wouldn't mess around and take chances with a shop called Lou's Custom Exhaust.

just go with a brand name exhaust, you dont want to risk getting a custom made exhaust that you might not like even after all the adjusting

oh and look in the classified section on here, you'll usually find a good deal on an used exhaust

It's pretty big around here. But I would never get my Z done by them.

dont judge a company or a companies work just by their name...do some research and find cars he/she has worked on before..talk to the consumer and ask their first hand op...as for tuning the sound...other then a resonator (or 2 ) how does the guy plan on doing this? remember, the more crap inline the less power you will gain...oh and this may sound dumb but make sure he is using a mandrel bender, not a press bender.....just my

Thank you for your input there was a site where you could finance parts instead of buying it outright... right now i just have an injen cold air, anzo taillights and tinted windows, like I said I am new to this but I love it so my next step was looking into exhaust also looking into spacers.

spacers are definitely a must if youre not going to get an aftermarket plenum. another thing you should get is test pipes.

Now test pipes.. I was looking at the classified adds for exhaust and saw test pipes, I am just worried about inspection, MA is pretty hard to pass, prior to my Z I had window tint on my galant barely illegal and they failed it.
Will the spacers give my car some good horse, website said about 16 hp.. I really just want to do a good exhaust right now... just need the cash haha

no way youre getting 16hp from a spacer, more like 5hp but you can definitely notice a difference with it. If youre worried about not passing inspection go with hfc's, berk makes the best ones.

Just look around in the intake exhaust subsection and you will find some useful information. If your tight on a budget I would look into X02 it's a knock off brand yes but it will hold you till you can save up for a nice exhaust

What are your goals for your car and what kind of budget are you working with? The problem I had when buying an exhaust was that I wanted something that looked good but later realized that I really wanted performance. I bought my first exhaust based on looks and price and I hated it. I'm now replacing it with a Bassani for its price and performance. It doesn't look that great in my opinion but it produces the most power and has a really nice sound. There are basically three exhausts I would buy and the only determining factor would be price. At the lowest price would be the Bassani (I found one for a little over $900), at more than double the cost would be the Motordyne TDX Harakiri (pricing isn't out yet but I would guess around $2,800), and if I hit the lotto I would get the Arc Titan True Dual (at nearly $10,000 this exhaust is strictly for the ballerz).
