Default NISMO Exhaust????????

Just looking for some input.
Buddy of mine knows the Parts Manger at a local Nissan Dealership, Called and said that he could get me a NISMO Exhaust (cat back) installed and computer updated for $600. The Parts Manger has had it since 2003 and never sold it. Was wondering what the hp gain is, and if it really sounds good. YOUTUBE videos sux. I like deep sounding exhaust not the crappy exhaust that you hear form the primer colored civic's. Thanks

you'll like the way the nismo exhaust sounds, it is burley compared to the average 350z exhaust set up. it is not too obnoxious either. computer updated? lol, they are just going to bolt the thing on and call it good, or perhaps disconnect your battery then reconnect it. the labor is ~20 minutes :P

I don't fully understand, is the exhaust new, or used? if it's new, that's a good price. if it's used, meh, I've seen a bit cheaper.

I have heard of some issues with the Y pipe and cats cracking .. but it seems to be pretty rare

The NISMO is a popular cat back exhaust. Not too sure about the "computer updated" thing.

It will make a decent amount of noise (not the tin can type, but not the deep, big block muscle car type either) when you are accelerating, and not too much when you are cruising. It also looks pretty good, IMHO.

I don't know if it has any real HP gain (other than maybe +5 or so because of less restriction/bigger pipes).

My y-pipe rattles like no other z, both the heatshields and flex joints rattle and it's not just a rattle but more like a loud vibration noise. As far as the cats cracking it is because of the strain you put on them, especially if they don't have the part that bolts to the body of the car.

Look at berk cats, they have the bolt part that will help them from not cracking. Also with the cats you better make sure you buy them with some good welds because the ones I have are shitty welds and I've blown them twice and have had them re-welded with ss and they are fine now (not sure what the make of the cats are because the guy before me that had the car put them shitty things on).

But seriously if you are doing an exhaust system, make sure you get an aftermarket y-pipe and a good set of cats, don't do it cheaply, you'll regret it.

What ever happened to the "million mile / lifetime warranty" on a stainless steel exhausts?? Do any still offer this? I think Borla or Magnaflow do. 10 yrs ago they all used to.

Agreed. That is the same reason why I bought mine. It sounds nice, sort of like you took the original exhaust note and amplified it. You can be subtle with this exhaust, but at WOT it delivers.

That's exactly the deal i got from the dealer!! Do it and never look back. You'll love it!!

FYI when i got mine installed it rubbed sligtly againt the "M" brace under the car (You'll see what i'm talking about if you get under there). I got a few washers and put them on the bolts holding th ebrace to the car between the car and the brace. Problem fixed!!

Make sure it has the updated mid pie with the extra tab welded on so it doesn't crack. Heck of deal though, I'd def. do it.
