i just installed my AAM plenum spacer today and the strut is rubbing the engine cover. i'm looking for a new strut bar and my question is will i have a problem driving around for a few days without engine cover or strut bar?

 

put washers under the strut bar braces

 

the problem with washers is the bolts are too short to go all the way in... and because of that i stripped the threads. gotta fix that on monday but right now driving no strut bar and engine cover.

 

d00d, you know the engineers put that engine cover there for a purpose. i just hope its not really dusty in your area or worse, if it rains. without the strut bar your car's body is gonna flex quite a bit. you could sustain frame damage if you take a corner too hard so make sure you take corners very slowly. if i were you, i just wouldnt drive the car until you get both those things fixed, its just not worth risking totaling your car.

I agree. You're not going to sustain any frame damage unless you crash your car or plan on entering a drift event. Isn't there a hardware store nearby? Buy some longer bolts that will fit the strut bar + washers

As a former owner of an AAM spacer, all I can say is that you're doing something wrong.

You can easily put two or three washers/spacers under the strut bar and all the bolts/studs will be long enough.

If you're putting more than three, then you have another problem as it doesn't need that many. Did you tighten the adjuster nut in the strutbar to put tension back on it? That causes it to bow-up slightly giving you more clearance between the strut bar and plenum.

You can't go too high with the strut bar or it will start rubbing on the hood. You'll know when that happens as you'll hear a loud vibration from that area when driving, especially turning and accellerating.

 

i didn't think about the tension bolt on the strut bar, i will try to work on that after i repair the threads... thanks everyone...
